1.0  Introduction

The principle of health and social care is a significant factor in terms of health and social care practice. This report provides effective information about different health and social care principles that are followed by health and social care practitioners. In addition, this report provides information about several legal procedures or policies related to health and social care principles. This information supports the health and social care practitioners to work carefully as well as treat the patients properly and effectively. On the other hand, principles in health and social care support the care practitioners to understand their responsibilities or roles and this makes them capable to work effectively in the workplace.

Task 1

1.1 Using examples explain how principles of support are applied to ensure that individuals such as Alice and her family on how they are cared for in health and social care practice

According to the case scenario, Alice is an old lady of 89 years who lives in her house alone. She has a sister named Annie and three adult children named Tom, Lucy and Mark. Mark is her son and his son is suffering from mental health problems. The local authority of the mental health team offers treatment to Mark but he refused to take the treatment. Though Alice’s son Mark does not stay with his mother, so he spends most of the time with his mother at his mother’s home.

Sometimes mental health problem of Mark makes violence towards Alice.  On different occasions, neighbors of Alice have called the police because of hearing to shout Mark to his mother. Like this, on occasion police reported to local authorities about some injuries that made to Alice. In this case, local authorities started to safeguard the procedures. Other children of Alice named Tom and Lucy advise their mother not to permit Mark to visit with her but she did not accept this and this makes Tom and Lucy upset. This situation has made huge tension among Alice’s family and this is allowing Tom and Lucy to make distance themselves from this situation. This is because both Tom and Lucy have no good connection with Mark. Alice is very much afraid about Mark’s consequences because if she tells others that Mark is violent or aggressive to her, then Alice will be arrested and she does not want that. Mark’s mother Alice only lets the social worker visit her in the absence of Mark at her home. Moreover, Alice is again afraid of Mark because he may show aggressive behavior in front of a social worker.

On the other hand, Alice has faced a number of health challenges for that she sometimes takes medical support from different NHS agencies at home. Recently, Alice takes the dialysis treatment because of her failing kidneys at home. In addition, she is also suffering from TB and for this, she has been prescribed to take a six-month tablet course. Because of her sickness, she regularly takes six tablets. For checking the blood, heart rate and other issues, every two weeks she visits the renal department at her local hospital. On the other hand, because of her sickness and the aggressive behavior of Mark, Alice’s social workers have advised her to go to an NHS Psychologist. Alice is suffering from a kind of situation that she now needs a high level of support. Thus, it is the key responsibility of health and social care workers to support her properly by fighting with her daily problematic situation.

There is the availability of a number of principles in health and social care so that taking care of the patients can come for the treatment at the workplace of health and social care. By properly understanding these principles can support the health and social care practitioners to give better services to patients who are coming for treatment:

Respect Individuality: The key principle in health and social care practice is every equal treatment, as well as respect, must be provided effectively to each individual. In addition, health and social care practitioners must provide privacy and space to the service users that are needed by them (Antiel, et. al., 2014).

Rights: The health and social care practitioners must consider the rights of the service users. In health and social care practice, service users have the right to know their treatment and to be treated equally. In addition, care practitioners must keep the personal information of the service users confidential. Moreover, health and social care practice must promote the independence of the service users (Hayes, 2014). Quality treatment, as well as services, must be provided to the services users by the care practitioners.

Privacy: Maintaining the information privacy of the service users is the other aspect that must be focused on by the service users. Care practitioners must leave the service users alone when they want to spend lonely time.

According to the case of Alice, it is very important that these principles of health and social care practice must be focused on that will support Alice to overtake the situation she faced and also make her able to find out the importance of her in society by starting to live happily (Thielke, et. al., 2015). On the other hand, this also supports Alice to overcome from dilemma because this will support her to recover from her sickness.

1.2 Outline the procedure for protecting Alice, her children and NHS care staff from harm in Health and social care context

Clients

Protecting clients from harm is another important consideration for social care home managers within the UK. Generally, clients taking advantage of social care services are in vulnerable positions and face financial, psychological or medical difficulties that make them prone to potential harm or abuse (Alcock, May & Rowlingson, 2008). The practice of safeguarding social care receivers is critical to preventing such abuse (Alcock et al., 2008). Current National Health Service (NHS, 2012) policy mandates that health and social care workers adhere to strict procedures for preventing neglect or abuse. Practitioners are held accountable for the services they provide, as well as their efforts to empower clients, protect their confidentiality and basic human rights and taking any additional measures necessary to protect vulnerable clients (NHS, 2012).

Patients

There are a number of processes that may support the care practitioners to protect the patients from danger. On the other hand, each of the care practitioners should be known of different processes that are presented in the health and social care workplace. The care practitioners must make a checklist of patients who are to be careful of. Then, it is essential to make around to each patient present that is in the checklist as well as to mark the checkups that help care practitioners to make sure that the care is provided to patients effectively (Hancock, 2015). By making conversation with care patients can also support them to be relaxed as well as also support them to gain information about the patient’s health…………..
