Introduction
The aim of this paper is to develop a report on several contemporary issues in health and social care services. Most importantly, this paper focuses on the responsibility of the media. This is because media has been playing a significant role to broadcast and disseminate information about contemporary issues (such as the risk of smoking, alcohol) to the public. Then, this paper discusses how public issues are related to the health and social care sector. Next, this paper discusses how research can be done on public issues and contemporary issues related to health and social care services. Finally, this paper discusses how contemporary issues affect the performance of health and social care services and sectors.

How the media can be used
Now a day media plays a vital role in presenting information and news. Most of the time people’s reaction towards news is according to the presenting ways of the media. So the media can create a great impact on people both positively and negatively. In recent times smoking is the subject of much negative press and is causing a major moral panic. According to Thoughtco (2017), moral panic is defined as the extensive fear that someone or something is a threat to the values, safety at a huge scale. Typically it is spread by mass media. Almost every organ of the body is affected by smoking. 87 percent of lung cancer deaths are caused by cigarette smoking. Besides this, it also causes many other diseases and disabilities including lung disease, heart and blood vessel disease, stroke and cataracts. Women who smoke may have any major problems during pregnancy and having a baby die from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Smoking also affects non-smoking people as they breathe in the environment where smoking is caused and they also are at risk of having those diseases.
For preventing smoking some steps should be accepted. And the media may play a vital role in this case in the following ways:
Friendly TV advertisement: Now a day TV is a great media source for reaching mass people. So it can be used to prevent smoking easily. Friendly advertisement telecasts can aware of people smoking.
News: Presenting news can be a very good source to prevent smoking. News will contain the bad effect of smoking on human health and the prevention way of it.
Internet: The Internet is one of the most popular information sources in recent years. According to the International Telecommunication Union (2015), about 3.2 billion people using the internet all over the world. So it is one of the strongest sources to aware people of the terrible impact of smoking and discourages them from smoking.
Virtual social media: Now a day Facebook, Twitter, and many others are very much popular among the people. So these media can be used to aware people of the dangerous effect of smoking. And it can be very effective for recent purposes.
Newspaper: Another effective medium to prevent smoking is newspapers. Newspapers can raise the awareness of people about smoking and have the strength to conduct them against it.
Seminars: Seminar is another way to prevent smoking. It is able to aware people of smoking as well as motivate them to aware of others.
Documentary films: Documentary films can show the impact of smoking and the way to prevent it.
Public health care reports: It can also be an effective source in the prevention of smoking.
Besides these cinemas and dramas, assembly, warnings also play a significant role to prevent smoking. Education and counseling by physicians of children and adolescents also effective in decreasing smoking.
Though these media sometimes misguide people and encourage smoking by disseminating some advertisement films and drama, these media are effective for preventing smoking and aware people about the harmful impact of smoking. As in recent years, media is the largest and fastest way to reach people it is very much efficient in this case.
How the public can assess the validity and reliability of media information
Reliability and validity are two important features to disseminate information. Reliability means the precision and constancy of the disseminating information and validity means how well a test measures what it is supposed to measure. Health and social care service plays an important role in health awareness and providing services. And the media can provide information about smoking to the healthcare staff from individuals who smoke. As media is the largest and fastest source of getting information from any part of the world people become very much dependable on it. And people accept the news which is carried by the media. This means they are very reliable to the media. So the opinion, attitude, and behavior of people are influenced by media.
Influences on validity
There are many factors that have an influence on the validity of the information which is presented by media. These factors are given below………….
