1.0 Introduction

According to Matten (2016), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR ) refers to the activities done by a business for the betterment of its stakeholders. In recent years, companies have emphasized the importance of social responsibility in a broad sense. A lot of concepts or thoughts of social responsibilities can be defined from the literature. Society will allow the business to operate smoothly while the company will satisfy the expectancies of society. For that reason, the firm acknowledges the duties of society. Thus, CSR techniques inspire the business enterprise to make a better relationship with consumers, investors, groups, and others.

2.0 Literature review

2.1  What is a literature review?

As Pan (2017) notes, a literature review refers to a search and evaluation of the available scholarly articles, books, and different sources on a topic, region of studies,  concept or an outline, precise, and the evaluation of critical works. It is totally a work of a secondary topic  – this is, what different people have already assessed on the problem and it isn’t always concerned with discovering new know-how or information.

According to Sutton (2016), a literature review consists of four main principles the formulation of the problem, the synthesis of data, the evaluation of data, and the discussion of findings and conclusions. It will display your insight into the topic also it will ensure that this research can be used in a wide range of topics. This is also crucial in helping find out the research objective. A literature review should not be misunderstood with annotated bibliography and book review. This is an essential element and it is also a segment of a bigger final product. In order to produce a good literature review, one should display a detailed step by step of process.

The literature review may include a summary of key occasions, however, in social sciences; it will follow a structured pattern and will consist of both the summary and synthesis.

A summary is a recollection of important events that are related to the source. But synthesis is a revision of the information, which will help you how to conduct research.  A literature review is a “comprehensive look at and interpretation of literature that addresses a particular topic”.

2.3 Purpose of the literature review

As Ridley (2017) notes, Literature reviews aim to gain an understanding of the prevailing studies and research in a particular topic of study and to present that information in the form of a written record.  A literature assessment enables us to build expertise in the subject area. It enables the writer to crucial ideas, research methods, and experimental strategies. Pan (2017) stated that a literature review is an initial point of conducting effective research that provides initial ideas and knowledge to the researchers towards particular research topics and subject matters.

The literature review is also the strengths and weaknesses of an author’s knowledge area. It creates a connection between the various contributions, identify, remedy contradictions, and determine the unanswered questions of a particular topic.
