Unit 1: Business culture and responsibilities

Learning Outcome: 01

Task 1.1 Produce a report on ‘improving the sustainability within a business environment’ by ‘analyzing the benefits of keeping the waste to a minimum.

Waste has been a major environmental issue everywhere since the industrial revolution. Besides the waste, we create at home, school, and other public places, there are also those from hospitals, industries, farms, and other sources. Waste is something that has no market value.

Wastes are items that one does not need and discard. Sometimes there are things we have that the law requires us to discard because they can be harmful. Waste comes in infinite sizes; some can be as small as an old toothbrush, or as large as the body of a school bus. Everyone creates waste, although some people are very environmentally conscious and create very little.

All over the world, communities handle their waste or trash differently. Some common methods of managing waste include landfilling, recycling, and composting. Other communities strongly embark on waste reduction and litter prevention/control aimed at reducing the production of waste in the first place. Some communities also engage in waste-to-energy plants and hazardous waste disposal programs.

However, it is also important to consider the environment throughout the working day, including practices that help to promote the reuse of items and reduction of waste – for the benefit of the business as well as the environment it is in. This is best achieved by sourcing raw materials that have the least environmental impact at the point of extraction, are processed efficiently in accordance with environmental regulations, and are available locally to reduce the effects of transport.

Along with responsible sourcing and use of materials, energy efficiency within the manufacturing process and distribution locally of finished products helps to reduce the impact on the environment.

Financial: Keeping waste to a minimum in the workplace can help a company financially. Reducing waste in the workplace can help reduce overall operating costs on a number of levels. Printing on both sides of a piece of paper cuts the cost of paper in half; sending correspondence via email instead of postal mail reduces the cost of paper and postage; using ceramic coffee cups and dishes in the break room in place of paper cups and plates saves money as well as trees. Repurposing materials also have a positive environmental impact and saves small businesses money. Examples include transforming scrap paper into notepads, shredding used paper to use for packing material, and using supply shipment boxes for document storage.

the landfill and recycled materials. In addition, it develops the employees’ productivity.

Employee motivation and morale: Connecting with the customers through e-mail as well as the digital electronic communication system proves the commitment of the organization to minimize waste. On the other hand, moving from the hard copy documents to the electronic newsletter lets the customers know about minimizing the paper used in the organization. These methods present the customers that organizations minimize the wastage (Brady, 2016). The business organization might get the public relations extent out of maintenance efforts that save the business connected with the costs of advertisements.

Environmental Support: Reducing waste in the workplace through reuse and recycling efforts has a positive impact on the environment. Less office waste means less trash in landfills. Recycling paper, aluminum cans, ink cartridges, and even office machinery and equipment can help reduce the global environmental impact of consumer consumption. Other options, such as composting, can reduce waste even further. The extra funds can be used to support an office charity or reward office conservation efforts in a tangible way…………..
