Introduction
There needs a wide range of skills that of necessary for the participation in acquiring the Higher Education (HE) in several stages of the education by the learners. Every student has to be very attentive to attain the aims and goals and thus he may acquire the skills that are very necessary for the development of personality and capability of employability, critical thinking and analysis, problem-solving and other skills (Murtonen and Balloo, 2019)). This reflective essay finds several skills related to higher education achievement by research and then explains the effectiveness in the HE fields.
Research and explain the key HE skills
Here below a collection of higher education required skills are researched and explained with a discussion of effectiveness for the students at different levels of HE fields.
Time management and development of learning strategies
Every student in higher education seeker needs to achieve these qualities that of formed time management and learning strategies development. By the time management skills, one may attend classes with due schedule and takes part in the lesson attentively and thus he developed the learning strategies for further requirements (Myers, 2017).
Reading academic texts critically and effectively
The learners for Higher Education skills management and achievement need to read his texts book attentively and he may criticize the topics whether there are missing information or irrelevant to the contexts (Ehlers, 2020). The students make the lessons effective by taking notes and summarize the key points of the reading from the texts and lectures.
Taking notes in lectures and from the hard or electronic copy
It is one of the basic components the learners should obtain with optimum response to the lessons while the teacher delivers a speech in the classes highlighting various things and information relevant to the texts and contexts of the lessons. He must practice this good habit of taking notes while he reads from hard copy and soft or electronic books (Myers, 2017).
Planning and writing essays and reports
This capability of free handwriting on several topics related to the prospects from his syllabus by the college or university can improve his knowledge and enables him to write well in the examination halls (Ehlers, 2020). He is supposed to read the unknown and uncommon topics too by the practices writing essays and reports at home.
Constructing and presenting bibliographies and references
Now is the age of science and technology that helps the learners to be aware of sources of learning materials and references properly. Thus he is comprised with authentic writing of information. He practices the references writing and bibliographies enclosures to the main contexts and lists below the essays which help him to cut good figures in the exam and attract the attention of the teacher to him (Myers, 2017).
Developing an academic writing style
A properly designed style of collecting information and writing style can easily attract the attention of the examiner while he checks the answer sheets and reports by the students. This quality of the students has to cherish from their very childhood to the higher education level so that he may continue their good marking and grades (Ehlers, 2020). The students typically develop an academic writing style. Here in this academic writing style, he maintains the required formats and formats for the report writing and essays.
Improving spelling and grammar
All the efforts are depended on the practice of the improvement of grammar and spelling checking while the learners write the essays or reports (Myers, 2017). The students may have attracted the teachers once or twice by the misspelled and grammatically wrong writing but for the ultimate achievement of higher education skills and research work, he must be aware of the spelling grammar in his writing.
Preparing and delivering presentations
This quality within the students may grow with the help of the knowledge of software and system of presentation slides making and presents to the teachers (Ehlers, 2020). This is very necessary for the students to learn how to prepare presentations in slide making and arrange and designs the slides.
Reflection on my own skills in relation to the above skills
I used Gibb’s Reflective Cycle (1988) to find out skills that are existed and are needed for further career development.
Here in this essay writing and of higher education required skills summarizing I recognized several other skills existed and to be developed for further career. These skills comprise ICT skills, Problem-solving, Communication skills, Mathematical skills, Self-management and development, Conflict Resolving, Managing tasks, Critical thinking.
ICT skills are capabilities of using several software and tools related to studies and responsibilities of voluntary work or jobs (Williams et al., 2020). These skills include the MS word application use, PowerPoint software to prepare presentation slides and use of the internet to search information for research work. Communication skills are very important to communicate with the team members and with the manager in the office. This includes verbal, written and face-to-face communication.
I felt very free while I was writing essays for the assessment and education. I learned much more about the use of the software and gathered various information related to the research and required HE skills for the students at higher education level at university and college. I found the time management skills very fine that I didn’t realize before. This skill helped me very much to attain the perfection of writing the essay (Williams et al., 2020).
I am benefitted much from having opportunities of the skills acquiring about the ICT tools and software. Communication with the teacher improved my verbal skills of communication. I found some lacks within me and I promised to develop these in further career development approaches.
Analysis of the skills completed through a series of justification and audit test procedures by me. I participated in the Skill Audit test to find out the existed skills and rating them helped me to realize the states of these skills within me.
Conclusion
Time management, Decision-making power, Critical analysis, Analytical ability, Customer Relations etc. fields are related to voluntary work or jobs or in the learning periods of the student life. In the industrial workplace conflict between the employees are common and I managed to achieve the skills to resolve the disputes. In the accounting section, I needed to learn how to do summation and other mathematical accounting. Wherever I went to collect data for the business, I needed to acquire other skills aforementioned in the section.
