Introduction
The reflective statement is the process in which learners and mentors express their working experience (Matrix Education, 2020) and evaluate them with the effectiveness of the programs and events or skills development training, workshop. This paper discusses the teamwork formed with five members to collect industrial data. I being a member describe how to build up a team, what group works done, how the group works help members, my roles in the team and learning outcome, overall experiences.
How we build up our team
We made the team apply Tuckman’s Team Development theory which describes four stages of team management as Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing (Helfand, 2020). This step-by-step process helped us to develop our team. In the Forming stage, we were affiliated to choose members with a watchful mind to interact with each other. Absent qualifications sought within the members by criticism, conflict finding, and to implement power in the Storming stage. Thirdly, we established the procedures for how to proceed in the Norming stage. Finally, in the Performing stage, we worked hard to achieve the goals and success thereto.
What team works we have done
Group works are generally formed as teamwork where their team leader plays a significant role from the beginning (Johnson, 2019). We made a group to gather data about how a business manages its workforce within the workplace. Our team members together set the goals of the group work and objectives. Our activities and operations were verily defined. Key objectives were as below:
- To collect information on how to manage employees within the workplace
- To find out key factors that impact the employee relations
- To gather data about the continuous development process of the employees
- To determine the rights and responsibilities within the workplace
- To identify the reasons for industrial conflicts
In the working mythology, we went to a famous multinational company named McDonald’s Corporation to know about various processes how the company manages their people in the office. We distributed the duties among us as our team members’ qualifications and skills.
How the team works have helped us
According to Mullins (2018), various leadership kinds usually practiced by the companies are liaise-fair leadership, autocratic leadership, democratic leadership, dictatorship leadership, and transformational leadership. So, group work really helps the members share thoughts and skills. Helping each other within a team can make anyone new member as a perfect performer. We are skilled with various competencies like communication, leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving, analytical ability, team management, data analysis, data collection, innovation quality, motivational capabilities and others. When we got together went to the office we found the employees cordial to us, helping mind. As I was team Monitor I knew how to cooperate with the team members. By this data management project we everyone was helped know various sorts of leadership, analytical techniques, procedures of communication.
My role and tasks
Tasks and roles within a team may be classified into nine specific kinds according to Belbin’s Team roles theory mentioned in the diagram below (Mejia et al., 2019). I played an important role as Team Monitor in the team. I evaluated their approaches and suggested their lacking of several topics.
The difficulties I have faced in teamwork
According to Zainuddin (2020), there are six dimensions directed by Hofstede’s Cultural Theory of difficulties that arise during group work within a team such as collectivism, power distance, indulgence, long-time orientation, feminism, and uncertainty avoidance which generally impacts the group works varying from group to group and culture to culture of a team. During group work, I faced several challenges like power distance. I found the members late according to the scheduled time, happened for varied distances from the workplace. Secondly, I identified two members who used collectivism rather than individual performance. Thirdly, long-time orientations completing work disturbed us sometimes. We all the members were obstinate about properly collecting data, and thus we overlooked each other considering ourselves as Monitor individually. Thus, these problems helped us to think deeply as monitors.
How have we addressed these difficulties?
According to Schroeder et al., (2019) team resource management is very important to find out the difficulties and gaps among the team members. We have addressed the difficulties as we considered the factors of the Team Analysis Theory (Johnson, 2019) such as attitude, skill, ability, and knowledge requirements. We tried together to solve the difficulties by applying various techniques. We arranged a meeting to discuss the problems that arose during working. We supported the members helping them how to work individually in the group. We fixed meeting schedules discussing each other. We applied Maslow’s Human Motivation theory to motivate our team members who got disappointed during working with loads and pressure (Maslow, 2019).
My contribution
I played role in the team as a team monitor especially duties distributed to maintain the resources, define sets, working goals and procedures. I helped the members with very caring about their queries. I lead the team to perform properly. I planned for the meeting, working schedules, code of conduct, public relations. I divide the members into groups so that they can serve the data within the provided time period. I made a brief speech before starting the go. I formed the group according to directions by the mentor. I tried my best to cooperate with the members. Our employee relations manager and I worked hard whenever went to McDonald’s office to collect data on how the company manages its people within the office.
What I have learned from team works.
I have learned more than I imagined before starting the mission. Our team was formed with five members and all were excellent performers in several fields like a specialist in data collection from a multinational company, implementer played significant roles with his previous knowledge, resources investors collected all the tools and he knows how to maintains materials nicely, public relation manager knew how to communicate with strangers and officers of the workplace. And I monitored the deeds of the members and shared my experiences with them. I thus knew many things shared with each other as communication skills, team working, data collection process, data management, managing people, various leadership skills, ICT skills, and so on.
