Learning Styles Analysis.
Title: “Understanding students’ attendance in Business school – An exploratory study”,
I have been completed my study diploma in Hotel Management Technical Institute, Vasco in March 1992. I have found the most beneficial of this diploma program is to gain adequate knowledge about the hotel management system. By doing my study at the Technical Institute, I have gained theoretical, technical and practical knowledge that help me in my future career. My main goal is to be an effective manager in the hotel industry. For this motivation, I was attending this Institute to get enough knowledge about hotel management. The class structure and learning styles are not the same for all institutions.
In this institution, normally the class pattern was the collaborative and room basis. The learning styles include teamwork tasks, presentations, problem-solving tasks, group discussion, feedback from classmates, leadership activities, self-analysis questionnaires, watching videos & listening to lectures, question and answer sessions, debates, seminars, essay/report writing, descriptive writing, and coursework. I have found that my knowledge and learning capacity has increased with the age level and my best efforts in the learning styles. I have learned the English language, especially on a UK basis. This language helps me to come up with the modern world and to get my future career as a hotel manager.
Learning Styles Analysis
The learning styles and attenders’ types are classified into several categories. According to Lauren Elrick (2018), the learning styles are classified into visual learning, auditory learning, kinesthetic learning and reading or writing learning. These are included in the VARK and VAK theories of learning. Visual learning style includes the learning system by pictures, diagrams, written directions and more. It is considered the most popular and attractive learning style for students. Auditory learning occurs when the learning style is occurred by sound. On the other hand, kinesthetic learning indicates that the learners learn something by doing something. It is referred to as a practical method of learning. Finally, the reading/writing learners learn something by using written words. Smith (2015) stated that these learning styles have a great impact on the behavior and the attendance of the students.
Shereen Lehman (2020) stated that the other theory of learning styles including Kolb’s learning style is another important learning style. It was developed by David Kolb in 1984. According to Kolb’s theory, the learning style is the holistic type that contains experience, perception, cognition and behavior (Shereen Lehman, 2020). According to this model, student behavior and attendance depend on the four factors. Firstly the experience of the students and affects the observation. Secondly, the observation affects the perception of the students and then the cognition. Finally, all tasks have affected the behavior of the students on their attendance in the learning style.
I have followed Kolb’s theory of learning and completed my learning because it not only depends on theoretical observation but also practical experience. I have been completed my study of diploma in Hotel Management Technical Institute, Vasco in March 1992 and now I act as a Customer Service Assistant in Sainsbury. By the effective learning system, I have gained the ability to manage others, strong decision-making and problem-solving skills ability, motivate and lead others, effective communication skills in both written and verbal, build rapport and trust among colleagues and monitor the functions of the overall organization.
In summary, the learning style is very helpful to improve my learning and get the best career in the future. Johnson (2019) stated that the VARK and VAK have developed learning styles that include visual learning, auditory learning, kinesthetic learning and reading or writing learning. I have completed my learning pattern by combining the visual, auditory and reading as well as writing methods. Lauren Elrick (2018) stated that in spite of having the advantages of the learning system, it has several weaknesses. Firstly, the visual learning system is a very difficult system of learning. In addition, the visual learning method has the lacks aids of visual content.
The auditory learning style has a lack of texts and pictures that is not a fruitful method of education. The kinesthetic is not effective in all circumstances. Kolb’s learning style has also some weaknesses including that it has only a limited number of issues influencing learning (Shereen Lehman, 2020). In addition, it is not able to explain the psychodynamic, social and institutional factors of learning. For this reason, I have to make adequate plans to overcome the weaknesses of learning. I have to set my learning plan and continue my learning actions including teamwork, presentations, problem-solving tasks, group discussion, feedback from classmates, self-analysis questionnaires, watching videos & listening to lectures, question and answer sessions, debates, seminars, and essays/reports writing. Additionally, I should use the combined method of learning styles to remove my weaknesses. A suitable learning style helps me in the near future to attain my future aims effectively.
