Communication barriers at LearnEnglishUK

Allen (2019) stated that Communication barriers indicate the limitations or causes of the breakdown of effective communication. Normally, the barriers can be categorized under physiological, psychological, semantic, emotional, language, and cultural barriers (Chitraleka, 2019). The LearnEnglishUK has faced different barriers including the following:

Language barriers: In the case of LearnEnglishUK, the language barrier is a common barrier for the students. Most of the students of LearnEnglishUK were feeling nervous, misunderstood, and annoyed because the staff of this school is only talking in English and jargon. According to Chitraleka (2019), language barriers occur due to the difference between the language of the sender and receiver.

Emotional barriers: Most of the students of LearnEnglishUK have felt stress, homesickness, loneliness, depression and anxiety due to the poor management of the emotional factors of the students. Converse (2018) stated that a large part of student has left the school due to emotional barriers faced in the school.

Physical barriers: LearnEnglishUK has faced physical barriers due to its location beside the busy streets with a lot of passing traffic. During the summer when the windows are open, the students have problems hearing the teacher. Additionally, the buildings of this school are very old that creating problems at the time of the winter season.

Technological barriers: LearnEnglishUK has a poor Wi-Fi signal that creates huge problems in communication. The students of this school complain that they can’t meet with their family and friends due to poor technological support. It has created psychological barriers in the communication channel (Jodran, 2017).

Cultural barriers: LearnEnglishUK has very few arrangements of cultural activities by which cultural barriers occur. The students feel stress and depression due to a lack of transferring cultural objects with the teachers, senior students and their friends (Chitraleka, 2019).

Strategies to overcome them

Meyer (2018) stated that Better strategies help to overcome the communication barriers in the organization. Marshall (2019) stated that every organization has to initiate suitable strategies for mitigating the language barriers, emotional barriers, physiological barriers, psychological barriers, semantic barriers, and cultural barriers. Therefore, LearnEnglishUK should take some steps for removing the barriers to communication.

Overcoming language barriers: LearnEnglishUK should arrange debate and other language learning programs for the staff and students for increasing their language skills. LearnEnglishUK has set a plan for the staff to learn the regular language lessons in 10 global languages for teaching the global students.

Overcoming emotional barriers: LearnEnglishUK can be mitigated the emotional barriers by transferring norms, beliefs and attitudes of the sender and receiver mutually. Additionally, the teachers of LearnEnglishUK have to motivate the students and provide adequate mental support to the students for getting them emotionally strong.

Overcoming cultural barriers: LearnEnglishUK has to arrange cultural awareness programs for the students on various cultural days.  Additionally, LearnEnglishUK has to arrange tours to museums and historical places and industrial tours for the students by which they share their cultural issues with the teacher and friends.

Overcoming technological barriers: LearnEnglishUK has to establish a strong Wi-Fi signal by which students can meet with family and friends in the virtual platforms. Additionally, LearnEnglishUK has to use supportive and educational tools and techniques for overcoming technological barriers.
