1.0 Understanding of the skills and knowledge which contribute toward working effectively for employment
Every employer needs some basic skills in their desired candidates. Employers do mention some particular knowledge and skills in their ads for a job position in their business firm or company besides this basic expertise (Dillon, 2014). The skills that make a candidate promising for any job position are called employability skills (Hind, 2015).
1.1 Employability skills
Employability skills are the potentialities of an employee which represent the level of qualification, depth of knowledge in the particular area of the company and his experiences regarding the concept of the job he has applied for. Employability skills are also known as the general skills of a worker (Gravells, 2015). Besides special expertise in a specific area of the company employability skills are a must need for any kind of job application. Employability skills can also be defined as the skills that turn a worker into an effective and efficient person for the company (Dillon, 2014). Candidates with employability skills have a previous idea about their companies concept and their job position. Therefore, employability skills are also called job readiness expertise. Employability skills include better interpersonal skills, communication skills, leadership skills, a certain level of qualification in the job area, commercial awareness and other skills that make a worker a good problem solver and decision taker in the company (Hind, 2015).
Employability skills make the workers responsible for their duties. With their knowledge, they know how to find better options and make better choices in their job place. Employability skills make them capable to have control over their present and future career.
Employability skills is a set of many different skills. Every employer looks for these skills in their potential candidates. Some of the skills and their descriptions are given below:
Commercial Awareness
The level of understanding and depth of knowledge about business and past experiences in that field is called commercial awareness. Commercial awareness is the expertise that makes a worker full aware of his future job place and position’s concepts. For example, a candidate applies for a job position like customer service assistant in a company like Waitrose. He knows about customer service already and has past experiences regarding this field. Therefore, he will be considered commercially aware of the job. Among any must-needed skills for any company, commercial awareness has a certain significance (Dillon, 2014). In other words, commercial awareness can be defined as a clear concept about the functions and mechanisms of marketing, the desires of the consumers and the idea of difficulties that can arise during business operation (Gravells, 2015).
In brief, commercial awareness is the skill of a worker that makes him capable of making one business successful and profitable. Candidates with commercial awareness can be considered readymade workers. As he has a prior education and knowledge in the marketing area and has a basic idea about his future job, he can be proved as a more efficient worker than other candidates who are not commercially aware. The candidates who do not possess commercial awareness are not that many experts as the commercially aware candidates. Commercially aware applicants will not need extra training or learning events to make them ready. They already have their concept clear, therefore recruiting them in the company is more profitable than others. They are well performers, better decision-maker, greater problem solver and know about their responsibilities in their future position. As they have prior experiences they also know how to tackle difficult situations in the businesses (Hind, 2015).
Commination skills
Communication skills are defined as the expertise of a person to transfer the information to the other party persuasively and productively (Dillon, 2014). In any job position communication skills are very essential for any applicant. Most employers look for a good communicator for their company. In the workplace, to maintain a sound and friendly environment, good communication is a must thing. Therefore, the messages and information need to be accurately and clearly delivered. In this case, workers with great communication skills are most efficient in maintaining peace in the company. These communication skills include mainly four kinds of communication. They are written verbal, nonverbal and interpersonal skills. However, job posts in business firms and companies often require good command over verbal communication and written communication (Gravells, 2015)………..
