Businesses always depend on effective communication. Without effective communication, there is confusion, dissatisfaction, and misunderstandings. In order to operate a business appropriately, it is essential to understand the basics of business communication and its essential role in creating success. Business communication is any form of communication, verbal or nonverbal, that is used to relay a message, promote a product or service, or share information (Notes Desk, 2018). The message is carried over different communication channels such as TV, internet, radio, publications, outdoor as well as in an oral process in business communication.

Sainsbury’s is the 2nd leading supermarket chain in the United Kingdom. The key competitors of Sainsbury’s are Tesco, Asda, Morrison, M&S, C-operative, and Iceland. The share of the market of Sainsbury’s is 16.3%. It is recorded on the London Stock Exchange and FTSE 100 Index. The revenue of Sainsbury’s was £23.506 billion, operating profit was £707 million and net income was £407 million in 2016. The numbers of Sainsbury’s employees are 162,700 (Sainsbury’s, 2016).

Team members also want to utilize verbal communication in terms they want guidance or suggestions on particular problems and when they stuck on certain problems. It is significant because the misinterpretations or misunderstandings of managers and staff can be solved easily. Individual warmness and affability can be carried over verbal communication. Sainsbury’s applies verbal communication between its employees and managers when a major problem is created.
