 Introduction

Organizational behavior is referred to as the action of people in the organization and how their behavior impacts the organization’s performance. Therefore, it relates to the idea of how employees carry the daily duties in the firm. The term organizational behavior can be viewed in two ways which can be either an internal or external perspective. The phrase is also used to describe the way in which communication is created between the organization and its employees (Mullins, 2015).

This study is classified into four key parts. The first portion of this study will focus on organizational structure and culture differences and similarities present in Enterprise Rent-a-Car and City College.  Thereafter, the study will look at the impact of organizational structure and culture on the performance of both Enterprise Rent-a-Car and City College. Furthermore, the attributes that have an effect on the behavior of employees at City College will be further examined.

Secondly, the study will compare the style of leadership used by different companies by looking at their differences and similarities. The section will also focus on how management practice can be supported by organization theory. Lastly, different approaches relating to management will be examined at both City College and Enterprise Rent-a-Car.

Thirdly, the study will transition period at City College looking at how the employee’s motivation can be boosted by using a variety of leadership styles. Hence, different theories of motivation will be examining by mainly focusing on City College.

Finally, the features of group behavior will be examined in the company. Also, the factors that contribute to the creation of effective teamwork will be examined. Furthermore, the impact of technology on enhancing teamwork in the organization will be assessed.

1.1  Compare and contrast organizational structure and culture

Organizational structure

Organizational structure relates to how people are linked with the tasks to ensure that job is performed well in order to meet the objective (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2015). Therefore it is more concerned with the way the managers carry out the daily duties at the workplace. The structure of an organization can be flat, hierarchical, or matrix. The types of organization structure are explained below;

Hierarchical structure:

This form of organizational structure tends to have a shape of a pyramid, where all employees in the company are under the control of someone else except the CEO (Mullins, 2015). Under this structure, employees are said to be true to their departments they are working for and work hard in order to meet the objective of their department. These forms of the structure are said to be popular in large organizations such as the government.

Matrix structure

This form of organizational structure tends to bring together managers and employees who work in different departments aiming in meeting specific objectives. This structure is formed as a result of a combination of divisional and functional structures.  Hence, this type of structure tends to provides balance and flexibility when making decisions.

Horizontal or flat structure:

This form of organization structure tends to divide employees into layers, where the employees with power tend to stay at the top while the one with the least power tends to stay at the bottom. This structure requires employees to work in teams where each employee is required to contribute their idea to the team. This structure is said to be less suitable for large organizations.
