According to Henson (2018), Human resource management is defined as the functions of staffing, training, motivating and managing the performance of the employees and organization for achieving the organizational goals in a certain way. This report firstly selects Tesco for describing the HRM functions of this company. The purposes, scopes and objectives of Human Resource Management for a business firm including Tesco are explained in this paper. After that, the effectiveness of the key elements of HRM for an organization especially Tesco are also mentioned in the report. Finally, section 1 contains the explanation of internal as well as external forces affecting HRM decision-making and employment legislation for Tesco.

Due to explain the Importance of HRM, this report mostly focuses on a well-brand company that is considered as Tesco PLC. Tesco is a rapidly growing as well as the largest retailer in the United Kingdom and this company runs its business operations in 11 countries which headquarter in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire (Tesco, 2020). The main products that the company offers include several groceries, foods, clothes and other necessary items. The main strength of this company is the high qualified employees that number is approximately 450000. This company serves more than 10 million customers in a week with the help of these staff. The profitability and growth of this company are very outstanding. It produces a net profit of £1.320 billion in 2019 (Tesco Annual Report, 2019).

Human resource management is the process of recruiting and managing the personnel of an organization to increase the quality of the employees for meeting the expectation of the organization (Hatch, 2017). The goals of HRM contain two types including general and specific goals. Natter (2019) stated that the general goals include increase productivity, maintain legal compliance and ensure competitive advantage. The specific goals include attracting, retaining, and motivating the employees (Natter, 2019). In the case of Tesco, the main objectives of HRM are to recruit an exact number of employees at the right time and place; to support the workforce for increasing the personal and organizational performance and to ensure effective change and employment management in the workplace.
