Task 1: How significant life events impact individuals as well as their social relationships
1.1 Impact of significant life events on individuals
According to Jon Glasby (2017), Life events can be defined as alternations that occur in peoples’ life all of a sudden. A life event can happen slowly or in an abrupt manner also. Some life events happen in such manners that individuals do not get time to be ready for the event. Therefore, they suffer for quite a long time and take time to get back into normal life. Life events can be both good and bad. It is not mandatory that life events will always be awful and individual has to go through negative effects. Individuals may experience positive life events too, where the effects are all positive on both the experiencing person and his surrounding people. Therefore, life events can be both positive and negative and have both effects on peoples’ lives.
Depending upon the positive and negative effects the life events can be explained and discussed in many means. Life events can be categorized into different types by assessing how much stress level are they creating in the individual’s life. Nolan (2018) stated a model which categorized life events into 40 various classes. For example, when someone loses his loved ones, he experiences the most undesirables’ life events. This life event causes immense stress and negative impacts on that person’s life. Again, if someone loses their job or gets fired by their boss, they feel enormous stress and lead their life in great tension. Therefore, this situation can be categorized into negative life events.
On the other hand, getting proposed, wedding events, promotions, turning into parents make people happy and have positive impacts on their lives. These are the desirable life events. Thus, types of life events actually determine the impact of it impact on the individual’s life.
1.2 Possible group responses to significant life events
When a person in a group is affected by a life event, the responses from the group depend on the type of life event. Depending on the type of life event, the response varies from each other. However, the usual responses From the teammates are mainly supportive. Jon Glasby (2017) stated that Groups mates usually help the individual by calming him down and turning things normal for him. Such as, if someone in the team faces some unpleasant occurrence, others will show sympathy towards him and will show condolences for his situation. Again, if he gives news of a positive life event, the other group mates will congratulate him and help him to enjoy the moment but celebrating it.
Negative life events can happen due to many reasons. In addition, the reaction from the group Mates depends on the cause of the events. That means groupmates Consoles the affected person in a different manner depending upon the type of Situation he is facing. Redfield, 2013) Stated that to help the individual to improve his mental state, the group can try to help him through different sessions. For example, when someone loses his/her most dear ones, he/she will because very lonely all of a sudden. He/she will have a great vacancy in his/her life and thus he/she will become depressed. In this case, the group can help him/her to fill this vacancy with their help. They can give the affected person their time and help him to fulfill his loneliness.
Groups can also help the person by engaging him in various actions or interests. Groups can encourage him/her to develop some hobbies or they can motivate him/her to indulge himself/herself in some job. Thus he/she not only can develop him/her self but also can find some ways to overcome the negative life event and eventually the loneliness. Group can also arrange get-together parties or sessions for the affected person to distract him/her from this situation of his/her. For example, some groups join singing sessions to comfort each other. Music is one kind of medication for the person who has been suffering through life events. Music can decrease the depression and stress level in one’s mind. Therefore, groups arranging singing sessions with each other actually helps the affected person in various degrees to overcome their loss. Besides these, there are many
other different ways and approached that groups can follow to help their fellow groupmate to get better from the negative effect of the life event.
On the other hand, in the case of Positive events like getting married or becoming parents, groups can help the individuals by congratulating him/her and celebrating the moment with him/her. They can also help him by rendering encouraging advice to him/her.
1.3: Impact On Others In Health And Social Care
Julia Johnson (2016) stated that in the health and social care home, there are many people present with the person who is undergoing a life event. Therefore, the impact of the situation besides the sufferer is different according to the type of the life event. However, the people who are working with the individual have a tendency to help out the individual person. In addition, they also try to make the situation easy and bearable by giving company and through other means. Since the need of every individual is different and also this need varies from each other according to the nature of the situation he is going through. Furthermore, other people in health and social care react and respond according to the nature of need and the suffering person in their group (Ross, 2013). The main help remains in understanding the person who is undergoing a life situation. Julia Johnson (2016) stated that if the surrounding people can understand the feelings and needs of that particular person it becomes easy to help him. Moreover, the people of health and care home can also render the kind of support that he actually needs at that moment…………………….
