Introduction

In this report, the various aspects of ASDA will be discussed. ASDA Stores Ltd. is a British supermarket retailer, headquartered in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The company was founded in 1965 when the supermarket owning Asquith family merged with the Associated Dairies company of Yorkshire. It expanded into the south of England during the 1970s and 1980s, and acquired Allied Carpets, 61 large Gateway Supermarket gateway Supermarkets, and other businesses, such as MFI, then during the 1990s, sold off its acquisitions to concentrate on the supermarkets. It became a subsidiary of the American retail corporate giant Walmart after a £6.7 billion takeover in July 1999, and was the second-largest supermarket chain in Britain between 2003 and 2014 by market share, and is currently third behind Tesco and Sainsbury’s (Asda, 2016).

Besides its core supermarket retail format, the company also offers a number of other products, including financial services and a mobile phone company using the existing EE network. ASDA’s marketing promotions are usually based solely on price, and since 2015, like its parent company, Walmart, ASDA has promoted itself under the slogan “Save Money. Live Better”. Since 1987, ASDA has also had its property development subsidiary, McLagan Investments Ltd, which is based at the main Leeds head office site. The company is responsible for acquiring land for new ASDA store developments, along with the relevant planning applications that are submitted to local councils, and the potential acquisition of any retail stores or developments placed for sale on the open market by any of its main competitors (Asda, 2018).

Job advertisement

A job advertisement is a paid announcement in a newspaper or other medium about a job vacancy. The advertisement is part of a wider recruitment process designed to attract suitably qualified candidates for a job. A job advertisement should focus on the person a company such as ASDA is trying to attract and the details of the job vacancy, according to Industry appointments.com. The language used in a job advertisement should be simple and sentences short and direct. Bullet points are a useful format to list details like salary, location, start date, role, purpose, and experience required. A job advertisement should not use overly-technical descriptions and should address a reader directly. In addition, the information presented given should be vital and digestible. Although a company logo should be present, it should not dominate the advertisement. ASDA has several ways to advertise their vacancies. To appoint new employees ASDA can publish their job advertisements in several ways such as online advertisements, several webpage, and newspapers, and so on.

Job Description

The job description can be defined as a broad, general, and written statement of a specific job, based on the findings of a job analysis. Job description usually forms the basis of job specification (Torrington et al., 2013). The job description sets out how a particular employee will fit into the organization. It, therefore, needs to set out: the title of the job to which the employee is responsible for whom the employee is responsible for a simple description of the role and duties of the employee within the organization. The job description can be used as a job indicator for applicants for a job. The job descriptions mainly require proving clear knowledge about the entire job responsibilities

Person Specification

A person specification is a profile of the ideal candidate for the job. It enables potential candidates to determine whether they meet the required experience and qualifications. It also helps employees to identify requirements for the job. A person specification will help during interviews and it will also help to be used as a basis for staff development, appraisals, and promotions (Torrington et al., 2013). The person specification details the necessary skills, qualifications, experience, or other attributes needed to carry out the job. Using the person specification throughout the recruitment and selection process will enable them to ensure that the best candidate is selected and that the legal obligations and best practice objectives of the University are complied with……………….
