Task 1.1 Produce a report on ‘improving the sustainability within a business environment’ by ‘analyzing the benefits of keeping the waste to a minimum.
Business sustainability is often defined as managing the triple bottom line – a process by which companies manage their financial, social, and environmental risks, obligations, and opportunities. These three impacts are sometimes referred to as profits, people, and the planet. However, this approach relies on an accounting-based perspective and does not fully capture the time element that is inherent within business sustainability (Financial Times, 2017). A more robust definition is that business sustainability represents resiliency over time – businesses that can survive shocks because they are intimately connected to healthy economic, social, and environmental systems.
Business sustainability requires firms to adhere to the principles of sustainable development. According to the World Council for Economic Development (WCED), sustainable development is a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Financial Times, 2017). Thus, for industrial development to be sustainable, it must address important issues at the macro level, such as economic efficiency (innovation, prosperity, and productivity), social equity (poverty, community, health and wellness, human rights) and environmental accountability (climate change, land use, biodiversity).
Environmental and Social: Reducing waste in the workplace through reuse and recycling efforts has a positive impact on the environment. Less office waste means less trash in landfills. Recycling paper, aluminum cans, ink cartridges, and even office machinery and equipment can help reduce the global environmental impact of consumer consumption (Financial Times, 2017). Other options, such as composting, can reduce waste even further. Organizations may be able to generate extra revenue by selling aluminum or machinery as scrap metal. The extra funds can be used to support an office charity or reward office conservation efforts in a tangible way.

Financial: It is pricey to maintain the business’s waste. Minimizing the waste of the business in landfill can take tax savings. Moreover, efficient products of business minimize the purchasing cost for the latest products of the business. Business organizations can be able to achieve extra revenue from recovered parts of the building as well as the materials that are recycled. Finally, the use of REBRI which is a resource calculating method can manage to assess the economic creation frame of the landfill and the materials that are recycled.
Employee motivation and morale: It is essential to factor to interconnect with the customers thru e-mail and other systems of electronic communication rather than applying paper to diminish the waste of business and it improves the productivity of the staff. On the other hand, it is significant to move from the hard copy papers to the e-newsletter to let customers know about minimizing the paper’s use in the business organization (Financial Times, 2017). Thesemethodspresentthe customers that the business organizations minimize the wastage as well as also improve the motivation and morale of staff.
Task 1.2(a): Write a report on the agreed procedures for ‘recycling’
Recycling means taking the materials from the products that people have finished using and making brand new products with them. For example, most of the aluminum cans in the United States are made with recycled aluminum. So if anyone drinks juice or soda from a can, recycle that can instead of throwing it in the trash. That can stay in the Recycling Loop and out of the landfill (PA.Gov, 2017). Effective recycling starts with the household as well as the business organization (or the place where the waste was created). In many countries, the authorities help the business organizations and households with papers and bin bags with labels on them.
On the other hand, Recycling involves the conversion of waste into a usable material or resource. The process of recycling includes the collection and sorting of recyclable materials, as well as the processing of those materials into products that can then be re-sold. Separating recyclable items from household waste and leaving them at the curbside for collection or taking them to a drop-off center is only the first step in the recycling process. Recycling cannot be considered to have taken place until the resource recovered is reprocessed and re-used. In its simplest form, the straightforward re-use of a waste product is often considered a form of recycling. The use of an old jar to store home-made jam, or the use of an empty milk carton as a tree planter to protect a seedling from the elements, are just two examples……….
