Security and confidentiality in the business environment are essential factors to gain organizational goals. The first part of this paper first explains the importance of security and confidentiality in the business environment of Holiday Inn, UK. Then, this paper explains the possible consequences of failing to maintain security and confidentiality in line with the requirements of the Holiday Inn business. The second part of this paper identifies risk at Holiday Inn with its source, and assesses the impact of this risk and identifies to minimize the impact of risk likelihood.
3.1: Explain why security and confidentiality are important in a business environment?
Holiday Inn is a famous four-star hotel in London, UK. Security and confidentiality are very important in its business environment (Holiday Inn, 2018). According to Brown (2018), it is very important for Holiday Inn to keep information secured and protected against possible threats: stealing, espionage, and accidental/malevolent deletion. Having security guards in the Holiday Inn of Holiday Inn is often a safety measure that may deter criminals from targeting the business. The strong security maintained in Holiday Inn often reduces the likelihood of threats. Security in the Holiday Inn is also important because it may reassure employees and make them feel safe with extra protection while entering and exiting the facility.
According to Holiday Inn (2018), security in the Holiday Inn is available in many forms, such as a security guard at entrances or near valuable assets or safes. Holiday Inn also ramp up security by installing advanced technologies to entryways, issuing access badges with photo identification for each employee, and upgrading surveillance with interior and exterior cameras to monitor activity. Security for communication practices is also important (Holiday Inn, 2018). For example, Holiday Inn has installed intercom systems and has backup systems on hand, such as two-way radios, for employees to communicate when phone failures occur. 3.2: Explain the possible consequences of failing to maintain security and confidentiality in line with requirements.

In the wrong hands, confidential information can be misused to commit illegal activity (e.g., fraud or discrimination), which can, in turn, result in costly lawsuits for the employer including Holiday Inn. The disclosure of sensitive employee and management information can lead to a loss of employee trust, confidence, and loyalty. This will almost always result in a loss of productivity in the Holiday Inn.

Personnel information is confidential, and information in an employee’s file, such as social security number, salary, health records, disciplinary actions, and termination reason can’t be discussed with other employees (Edmunds, 2018).
Most of this information can not be discussed by the staff of Holiday Inn with potential employers who call for a reference. Divulging inside information can damage Holiday Inn, allowing them to sue the accused staff to recover those damages. According to Howell (2012), if the Holiday Inn and its stakeholders fail to comply with the act then they could face heavy penalties. Failure to comply with the data protection act could mean a fine of up to £5,000. Although in serious breaches of the Act, the court can impose a fine (with no recourse to the courts) of £500,000.
