Abstract

The study skills at the higher education level cover the reading and writing ability of the students. The reading ability comprises the understanding contents by predicting, assuming the inner meaning and the purpose of the study and the subject matters of the topics. For the improvement of the reading ability, the student takes strategies including time management, signposting understanding, reading details etc.

1.0  Introduction

The study skills at a higher education of the students cover designing projects and presentations to their teachers, academic writing style following in their assignment, improvement of several language spelling and grammar etc. (Cottrell, 2019).  This report will discuss the strategy that students can implement to improve their reading abilities such as reading for details, understanding signposting language etc. Then, the report explains the strategies by which they can improve their assignment writing ability, for example, keeping positive attitudes, correct referencing, time management etc. and finally, will put some recommendations.

2.0 Analysis and discussion

2.1 Some strategies that students can use to improve their reading ability

Strategies for higher education level students to improve their reading ability while they are going to take more courses at universities need to design properly (Webb, 2019). A student initially can augment some skills to improve their reading ability like as labeled below:

Note Taking

Note-taking is common pursuit by the student obligatory maintains this skill to improve their reading ability in the schools. Note-taking is the process attempt to jot down specific keywords and key points related to the texts and topics, subject matter of the courses. Note-taking from diverse sources especially from the class lectures, sheets by the lecturers, teachers. This special strategy helps the students at every level of study. The learners apply this technique to maintain their lectures, understand their texts and summarize their findings from the texts and lectures. This is the major quality of the students to understand the lectures and take preparation for the examinations (Sprenger (2020).

Signposting Language Understanding

Signs are common to every learner to study through the lines and between the lines. The signposting reading and understanding help the students to go through the whole text. Signposting by the writers to understand the main these used as a quotation or in the superscript forms behind the texts and information (Webb, 2019). The writers use the signposting keywords as a reference guideline and reference finding for the understanding of the text. To understand the inner meaning of the texts and included information signposting understanding is a key quality of the students to improve their reading ability. The reading ability can be increased and be prepared for the examination and tests by the signposting skills development.

Reading for Details

To be a good student needs to develop this skill of reading details the texts. This strategy helps the students to understand the key points and inner meaning and exact explanation of the study, writings, research by the researchers. Some may judge the books only by seeing and reading the cover and this approach may prove as misunderstanding the views of the researchers and the attempts are misjudged (Ehlers, 2020). Reading details of the topics and lessons can help the learner to keep the ideas and information for long periods and days. Thus, the students improve their reading ability at the higher education levels. The students at the higher education level need to research several topics and find key results of the survey. For this action fulfillment, they need to read the topics and related papers details so that they suggest proper directions and measures for the organization.

Prediction of Content

Prediction opens the door of research and discoveries for the students at higher-level education. The prediction on the related courses may develop their study skills like reading ability. Reading ability is the main quality of the students and this competency is developed by the several strategies management (Webb, 2019). Prediction on the topic and subject may help the students to understand the reading and texts as an initial attempt to go for study and research. The students can develop their reading ability by adopting and developing this quality. The contents show the way to visit and take ideas about the topics and subject matters. Understanding the content and assumption about the key matters can help the students what the content titles aim to discuss. And the students can discuss the matters in the class while the teachers deliver lectures………………………
