Introduction

Strategic resource management has been defined as the systematic analysis of the factors associated with the business environment. It includes the factors related to external environments such as customers and competitors and the internal environment i.e. organization itself. This analysis is done in order to provide the basis for the maintenance of optimum management practices. Strategic resource management is considered successful when it is ensured that all the resources of the company are used effectively. One of the objectives of strategic resource management is to achieve better alignment of the organizational resources with corporate policies and strategic priorities. The major areas to be discussed in this field are: a) Human Resource Management; b) Physical resources Management; c) Marketing, and d) Information Systems Management

McDonald’s Corporation is one of the largest and the world’s leading global foodservice retailers. It has approximately 35,000 locations all over the world and near 70 million customers in over 100 countries each day. The framework of the company is built on the five pillars i.e. people, products, place, price, and promotion. The success of the company lies in the alignment of the company, its franchisees, and its suppliers. The sustainable growth of the company is contributed to the prioritization of consumer needs along with the competitive advantages of convenience, menu variety, geographic diversification, and system alignment.

McDonald’s is a franchisor and believes in the concept of delivering greater customer experience and driving profitability through franchising. More than 80% of Mcdonald’s restaurants are franchises.

Human resources are considered the most important and valuable resource and assets of the organization. The strength of any business throughout the world either a product or services business lies in human resources, not in machinery, equipment, or higher cash flows. Employees of the organization make it competitive and great.

Objectives of McDonald

McDonald Corporation is the world-leading foodservice retailer; depending on the nature of the business, the main objectives of the company are as follows

  • To serve good food in a friendly and fun environment
  • To be a socially responsible company
  • To provide good returns to its shareholders
  • To provide high-quality food to customers
  • To deal in better and quick services delivery to the customers
  • To gain a competitive advantage over the industries of the same type

The bases for the competitive advantage of McDonald’s are innovation, quality, and cost. All the strategies adopted either for quality, innovation, and satisfying customers, gaining wealth, and providing services revolve around the committed human resources at McDonald’s. Human resource managers at McDonald’s recruit and select the best employees for providing the best services to the customers in a friendly environment. The employees are committed to promoting a friendly environment in which the customers feel comfortable and refreshing.

A company is said to be successful when the customers are fully satisfied with its products and services and this is only possible by having a committed workforce. The talented workforce at McDonald’s practices cost-cutting strategies by improving the quality of the products and constant innovation thereby gaining a competitive advantage. The restaurant staff takes care of the environment i.e. keeping the restaurants clean and hygienic, and also providing quick delivery of the products to save time for customers. The raw materials of the organization are handled with great care by the employees to avoid wastage and overuse of the resources.

1.2 A critical evaluation of the role of HRM in McDonald’s

Human resource management is the process of the functions performed in the organizations to achieve organizational and individual goals by the effective use of resources i.e. employees and workforce. The main role of the HRM in an organization is job analysis, human resource planning, recruitment, selection, and development and performance appraisal of the employees.

Human resource management at McDonald’s guides their decisions by formal Human Resource Planning. Their strategies and objectives are guided by formal HR planning. The HRM at McDonald’s select employees with skills and talents. The HR role at McDonald’s is to foster a high-performance culture that is backed by a skilled and talented workforce. HR assumes that people are the most valuable organizational resource that is important for sustaining superior business performance…………….
