Introduction
A reflective statement is defined as the process of writing individual knowledge, understanding and experiences in a certain event (Glassman, 2019). In this statement, my contribution to teamwork and findings in teamwork is focused. This statement also focuses on the result of the entrepreneurship course of the MBA program and the experiences achieved as a team member from this course. This teamwork developed a new business startup, named Peace and fashion.
How we have developed our team
An effective team is very important to understand each other and can also be very helpful according to the needs and requirements (Cox, 2019). To make a better and competent team we have used Tuckman’s team development theory that consists of the four selective steps such as forming, storming, norming and finally performing. The first stage is forming that describes the introducing process between the team members and know about each member’s personality, expectation, presentation, weakness, strength and thoughts. The second stage is the storming stage mainly involves figure out the disagreement, dichotomy, conflict and different opinions among the group members. To study this stuff the group members can learn about the others’ deliberation and view (Cox, 2019). The thirds stage is norming stage helps to increase the flexibility among the team members to solve conflicts and problems. The final stage is the performing stage teaches us to work together and make a successful team to gain our target goals and objectives.
My role and tasks
To follow Belbin’s Team Role an effective team and the members’ activities and responsibilities into the team understand (Perry, 2019). Belbin’s Team Role discusses nine major roles that help to complete the team as Resource investigator, Team worker, Coordinate, Shaper, Complete finisher, Implementer, Plant, Specialist, Monitor evaluator. In this team, I was the Monitor evaluator. I had to be best at analyzing and evaluate the thoughts and proposed ideas that other members of the team come up with. I maintained several tasks and responsibilities like shrewdly analyzing the aims and purposes of the business, attentively evaluate the positive and negative sites of the options, applying my critical thinking and offer the most suitable strategies and approaches for the team.
The strengths of our team
Strengths theory related to philosophy, strengths and possible results that plays an important role to express the strengths of the team (Perry, 2019). In our team, we had ten members that were considered a medium team. So for the adequate team members, we had the opportunity to divide our task into several sections and distribute the specific responsibility among our members so that they could complete their own work very carefully and perfectly. I was the Monitor evaluator, my critical thinking, analysis capacity, the entire monitoring ability was very helpful for the team to acquire the aims. We had a strong and efficient team leader and others member of the team were hard working that was the strengths of our team.
The weaknesses of our team
Besides the several strengths, some weakness was found in our teamwork. This was our first time working with more than 5 members in a team so we suffered from lots of incongruities, divergence, various opinions on the same topic. Our team leader and maximum members of the team had not adequate knowledge of specific problems so sometimes we took lots of time to make a correct decision and also facing deficiency in the force and capability to motivate others was considered as the weakness of the team.
The difficulties I have faced
Working in a team creates many difficulties. As a team leader, I faced several problems while managing the team. Individual team members have different opinions. It was difficult to convince them in a single idea and decrease the conflicts. Besides managing time with every member was another problem. To managing with their time I have to reschedule the meeting several times. And finally assembling everyone’s task and fulfilling the tutor’s feedback and guidelines was another problem that suffers me.
How I have addressed these difficulties
Kolb’s problem-solving model is very effective in any teamwork difficulties. This model has four stages: concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization and active experimentation (Brown, 2018). I have used Kolb’s problem-solving model to overcome the difficulties. According to the model, I used my own experience to understand the problems and manage the team members. After that, I reviewed the members’ activities according to the experience. Then I accomplish the learning and the proposed business plan according to the tutor suggestions and the experience gained through this course. And lastly, I was trying to focus on the experience and learnings.
My contribution
Being the team leader, my contribution to this teamwork was much greater. Before starting, I have identified the strengths and weaknesses of my team members and divided the total task among them. I arrange various meetings for open discussion about the task. I always monitored and evaluates my team members’ work carefully. Whenever they are having any troubles in completing the task or communication, I always try to fix the problems as soon as possible without any dissatisfaction of the members. The idea about the proposed business came from my mind and then my team member agreed with me. I work hard to direct my team members and perform my own part effectively to complete the whole task successfully. And with the help of everyone finally, the task is completed magnificently.
What have I learned from this teamwork?
I have greatly benefited from teamwork. This teamwork helps to improve my research skills. My understanding of the innovation and development of new ideas of entrepreneurship business is greatly improved. Besides, my interpersonal skills such as team working skills, decision-making skills, problem-solving skills, creativity skills, time management skills, and ICT skills are improved.
Conclusion
In this team, I worked as a team leader and work hard to fulfill the team’s destiny. I managed to identify my strengths, weaknesses as well as those of the members. While working in the team, there rose some difficulties which are managed successfully by using Kolb’s problem-solving model. Besides, my contribution as a team leader in this teamwork and the lessons and experiences that I have achieved from the teamwork is also focused on in this statement. These lessons and experiences have developed my both academic and interpersonal skills.
