Personal Development in Professional Settings Assignment (GC01873)
Part 1: Career Goal
For my future career, I have decided many career choices to stable my next life. From many choices, I prefer three options for my career. These are midwifery, pharmacies assistant, and care home managers. Among these three, midwifery, pharmacies assistant are not suitable for my career. There have many difficulties to be midwifery or pharmacies assistant. Midwifery means the care and services for pregnant women and during the period after the baby’s birth. On the other hand, pharmacies assistant are helpful to our society.
They help a lot with people and children that need helps with prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, toiletries and sales in percentages. It is not that easy to become midwifery or nurse. Being a midwife is not a worthy course because of mental and physical health. It causes a great health problem because of the long shifts and heavy workload. It also lacks personal development skills (Joe, 2019). Pharmacies assistant is another hard job. It also gives the mental pressure because an assistant has to face many verbal or physical cases of abuse, navigating politics, etc (Joe, 2018). My main career choice is to be a care home manager.
A care home manager is taking care of resistance, families, and staff. As a health care assistant, I see why the manager is leading and supporting staff to make sure the homework in a professional way. Sending staff for training, communicating clearly, listened well, non-judgmental, gave unconditional praise, allow you space to grow and make mistakes last they made you feel worthy and valuable. I saw myself having most of this character. Their wages are good. I want to upgrade myself to highly professional skills with a certificate.
Part 2: Current Reality
SWOT is a short form of strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat (Kite, 2018). In my current job, I have done hard work and very carefully. I have always tried to give all my best performances for my job. In my current job in health care as an assistant, the five people from my job made a survey of my strengths points and weak points by observing my style of working. The survey is given below:
According to a survey completed on Jack (2018), all five people say one word or phrase that describes me best is that I am an honest person, reliable, loyal, ambitious, and enthusiastic. Then these five people say about my greatest achievements. These are excellent results in my last course, outstanding grades in my last course, being the best performer in class, giving a great presentation in class, and organizing a successful charity event. In addition, they also told that what they most value about me. These are I respect for everyone, care towards others, I have jolly nature, I have a great sense of humor, and I maintain my personal responsibility very well.
They also told me about one thing which I have to change for my own benefit. These are I have to work out more, stop taking things for granted, open myself more, cut out any toxic people in my life, and eat more healthily. They also told me about my key greatest strengths which are I am enthusiasm, trustworthiness, creative person, determination toward the work, and dedication. This survey helps me very much to change my bad habits, and improve my weak points.
On the other hand, in my SWOT analysis, I can understand my strengths, weak points, opportunities in my work, and threats. Referring to my personal SWOT, my strengths are I have strong communication skills and I can speak in three languages; I have experience for a long time as a health and social care worker, I can also do good academic performances, strong skills management skills and capability to work without a supervisor. My weaknesses are being bad at meeting deadlines and timekeeping, family distraction, not using modern technology in the workplace and personal life, poor knowledge on customer changing needs, face many difficulties in critical situations and creative ideas, difficulties in problem-solving and decision making.
My opportunities are my company trains their employers and develop the program from time to time, can do further study to increase academic and employability skills, also planning to increase our wages. My threats are child care disappointment in my company; sometimes the internet has a poor connection. Also, Brexit has affected the UK economy which affected lots of people’s personal life and organizations. Also, Covid-19 has greatly affected the UK economy and in income, and the last one is works and study both at a time can make pressure on health.
Part 3: Options for Progression
I have some gaps in few skills, especially in technology skills. I do not use any kind of modern technology in my workplace or in real life. Furthermore, I do not have that much experience and knowledge about modern technology. Technology is something that can develop and improve any kind of business if it facing big problems (Tylor, 2018). As my career choice is to be a home care manager, I have to be very quick in technology skills. For this, I have to take some steps to get over this problem. Firstly, I have to join a course which will teach me how to use modern technology in the workplace and in my personal life. Also, I will need to gain some experience of the role, which I can get through the apprenticeship program starting in June. So, I can learn some uses of modern technology.
As I am doing my current job in health care as an assistant and I want to be a home care manager, I have some gaps which I need to correct. I can already see which requirements and personal specifications are needed for my career choice. I am an assistant in a health care company; I have some experience working in the industrial market. But I have to learn some more things. Such as, I have to learn how to take care of families, residential. Then I need to learn about being a professional social worker. Also, I need to achieve my nursing degree to become a respected home care manager. Lastly, I need to learn about management and handling budget systems.
That is how I can bridge the gap between my current situation and my career aspirations. For this, I can take some steps. Firstly, I need to qualify for my educations and move forward with a nursing degree. Without a nursing degree, home care management is tough. Then I can do some social works for my society and country like I can help the poor by giving them clothes, I can help the old people by financial or can support them. I can practice by doing some creative works and some budget-related work. I can handle my current job’s accounting side so that I can learn how to manage the budget side.
In my current job, I have some opportunities like I can learn many more skills from my company for my future career. I can practice more and find some creative ideas and give these ideas to the company so that they can get to know about my creativity. Besides, in my sector, I have the opportunity to become a health care manager or any social aid manager. Also, I can increase my academic and employability skills so that I may have the best knowledge about any kind of business idea.
I have also some threats which are already described in my SWOT analysis. For the Brexit issue, this country faced many economic problems. Also for this great pandemic in Covid-19, this country has faced health problems, economic problems. This can be a big threat for me of becoming a care home manager.
Part 4: Way Forward
There are three steps that are specific, measurable and attainable for my main career choice. These are:
- The deadline for applying for the home care management position is on 01/01/21 so by that date I need to have the following in place for my application and develop my performances and improve my skills more so that I can get that position very easily.
- In order to apply for a home care manager, I need to have a minimum of a 2:1 which I can achieve because I have already experienced as an assistant in health care for five years which is a great benefit for my career choice and my managerial post.
- I will refine my profile and create a document that indicates my strengths as well as my weaknesses with the aim of my life to be a big manager in-home care.
