1.0  Introduction

A business organization runs with a strategic plan that is developed by the managers and leaders consisting of several factors that practically impact the business. Every business needs to revise its business policies, customer relation policies, promotional advancement etc. to grow and create a position in the global marketplace (Blazich, 2020). Various theories related to leadership, management, promotion, and customer relations play vitally important roles in building brand value and prestigious image in the marketplace (Mintzberg, 2019). This individual case study evolves to show the application of these business organizational theories to the British American Tobacco Company and how they manage their business with the help of the business models and advices by the theorists. British American Tobacco plc (BAT) was established in 1902 which headquarter is in London, England. The company is one the most popular and the largest tobacco manufacturing company in the world. They manufacture several unique products especially known for their cigarettes and some nicotine products.

The company is a leading, multi-category consumer goods supplier business and also produces their less reducing and less harmful products and sells globally. Their purpose is to build A Better Tomorrow by decreasing the health impact of their products, as used to sell only nicotine products before within their business, offering a greater choice of enjoyable and less risky products for our consumers (BAT, 2020).

However, this essay discusses the Principles of management used in the company and how to apply their interpersonal skills by the managers in the advancement of their business growth. Then, it outlines the basic roles that the leaders perform within the workplace and the skills of the managers. Secondly, this essay discusses the measures by the company to build the organizational structure and culture. Then, it describes the various leadership styles that the company applies in the workplace to enhance the effectiveness of analyzing the influences of power and conflicts. Finally, this study shows how the various types of motivation impact the development of the business and put recommendations too.

2.0 Examine the management style and state the principle and functions of management used by the CEO of British American Tobacco

Basic roles of the management of British American Tobacco

The CEO of British American Tobacco Company Jack Bowles applies several techniques and theories to perform better roles in the management. He applies Henry Mintzberg’s management styles in his performance operation. This style of management is provided by Henry Mintzberg in 1973 which carried out experiential studies into the administrative behavior of CEOs in five private and semi-public organizations to justify the progress of the studies and effectiveness. In accordance with Mintzberg (2019), the tool discusses interpersonal, decisional, and informational feedback by the CEO respectively provide information, using information and process information by the leaders, monitors and entrepreneurs.

Principles of management used by the CEO of British American Tobacco

British American Tobacco Company uses several principles to maintain its workforce. The CEO of the company applies Fayol’s Principles of management to distribute the tasks amongst the employees so that they can work effectively. Rajesh (2019) states that the model discusses several factors of management like order, unity of command as well as a chain of command, disciplines, Espirit de Corp etc. are very valuable for organizational management. The managers divide the tasks of the laborers considering the equity and availability.

Organizational functions of management

The managers of British American Tobacco demonstrate the supreme aptitudes of his performances of taking the strategic plans for the company. He classifies the strategic approaches as controlling, leading, planning, and organizing to perform his best within the workplace. The main task in this respect he does is divided into strategy formulation and strategy implementation. Jack Bowles in this regard can be the best example for the other leaders to see how to perform organizational functions devotedly for the company as he does his duties and significantly encourages the followers (Prabhu, 2020).

Skills of managers of British American Tobacco

According to Schermerhorn and Bachrach (2017), the managers are the key influencers within a business organization and he performs as the shield while managing industrial disputes amongst the employees. Here in the BAT Company, the management is leveled with three classes: top management, middle management, and supervisory management respectively needed three skills like technical, human, and conceptual which covers all the influential qualities of a manager within the workplace.

3.0 Analyse the steps taken with regard to organizational structure in order to achieve high performance and state the organizational culture at British American Tobacco and its impact on the employees

Interactions between the organizational structure & different functions

There are several obvious interactions between the organizational structure and different operational functions within the British American Tobacco workplace. To demonstrate this idea of a combination of the management of performances by the managers and employees can be properly maintained by the Matrix organizational structure in the workplace. The management of the BAT Company uses the matrix model to make the relations of the managers with the different levels of workforces in their office. Companies generally adopted several organizational structures in the workplaces like Functional Structure, Divisional or Multidivisional Structure, Flatarchy Structure, and Matrix Structure etc. The company comforts with the matrix in their workplace. This structure matrixes employees at different levels dividing them into superiors, departments or divisions. Sandermoen (2017) defines that the matrix structure binds the tasks with the employees of different levels where the task is designed to perform by the chain of command by participating, proof identifying, and quality check and other evaluation. In this process, the employees need to depend on the decision of the managers to permit the completion of the task or production finally. Thus the actions are interacted by the two performers such as employees and supreme positioned decision-maker and their functions………………………..
