1.0 Introduction

Individual and group behaviours in the workplace are one of the key components for measuring the success or failure of an organisation. Behaviours reflect an individual or group’s likes or dislike toward other people, objects, activities and events in workplaces. Rapid technological and industrial changes are forcing organisations to understand their staffs’ behaviour in workplaces (Mullins, 2010). This report has investigated several individuals and group behaviours and the factors which influence these in a workplace, namely Zara.

2.0 Company background

Zara is one of the famous brands in the fashion and clothing industry, which is operating in many countries across the world including the UK, EU, and the US. Zara serves thousands of customers every day in its more than 2000 stores by 35000 workforces. The key products of Zara are clothing for men, women and children. It has been growing up gaining improved marketing shares, sales revenue and profit margins.

3.0 Factors that influence individuals and group behaviours

According to the MARS model, individual characteristics like personality, values, self-concept, perceptions, emotions and attitudes, and stress are influenced by motivation, ability, the role of perceptions and situational factors, which lead to the behaviour and the outcomes (David et al., 2010).

The motivation of employees at Zara: The workforces are motivated in the Zara, consequently innovative ideas and thoughts are coming from them, which are impaction on the business activities positively. Secondly, new ideas are coming from talent researchers and coming into action by Zara management. Thirdly, the leadership at Zara have made its workplace an enjoyable excellent working environment with discipline.

The ability of staffs at Zara: The workforces at Zara are skilled and experienced because of its effective training and development program, consequently they are able to meet the business challenges, organisational goals and objectives. Therefore, Zara is growing up with improved business performance.

Job allocation in the Zara: jobs are allocated as well as distributed by roles and departments. Leaderships distribute power creating a democratic environment, which is motivating line managers and staffs leading to improve sales revenue and financial performance.

Situation analysis in Zara: the company have available talent researchers and give priority to the ideas that come from the researches. Thus, new and innovative ideas are coming to improve sales and profits, and customer retention and loyalty. However, the new procedures come in different departments may be the cause of negative outcome in some cases. For example, it may make the organizational structure complicate and complex, may need an extra workforce to deal with the new ideas that may also increase overall costs. Some employees may be de-motivated due to the new procedures that might down the staff’s performance and improver staff turnover rate.

Pros and cons  Organic and mechanistic structure at Zara: organic structure can be appropriate for Zara. According to Huczynski et al (2010), it might give flexible changes required and can limits the hierarchy levels to increase research outcome, and to establish a democratic environment. However, this structure does not have boundaries and provide unproductive directives, consequently, it may lead to greed and selfish motives, which can also create staffs de-motivation and let down the business performance………………………
