The Covid-19 has affected all the sectors around the world including the education system. At present, educational institutions have been forced to implement technology-based learning using online platforms to continue classes. I am working for a private college and need to conduct research on the attitude of potential learners towards online learning. For this reason, I have talked with my friends, colleagues and studied articles. This report contains a summary of the findings of the research on the opportunities and challenges and opportunities of online learning.
From the research findings, I have found some opportunities attached with the online learning system in this pandemic situation. Chiodini (2020) stated that the Covid-19 hampers all the educational systems around the world. Firstly, online learning is creating a platform for the teachers and students to join each other and continue their studies. Secondly, most of my colleagues and friends said that online education has the flexibility and costs reduction system of learning. Additionally, they also mentioned that online education creates the opportunity for both students and teachers to save their time and self-regulated learning process. Lewis (2020) stated in his journal that online learning also creates opportunities for both students to increase their experiences in the online, digital platforms and web-based tools and technologies. The online system also creates an opportunity to connect an international online community and collaborate with classmates and teachers from around the world that is not possible in the offline study.
On the other hand, I have found some challenges attached to the online learning system in this pandemic situation. Firstly, one of the most challenges of online learning is the assurance of joining 100% of students. Secondly, due to several barriers, students are not self-motivated to join online classes. Smith (2020) also revealed that the network is not strong in every remote place of a country that creates problems in the online learning process. Fourthly, most of the students do not have an android phone, technology and the internet that also regarded as challenges of online learning. Chiodini (2020) stated that quality assurance is a challenging task in the online learning system. Due to the higher price of the internet, most of the students can’t join in the online classroom.
Therefore, I have prepared some recommendations to increase the opportunities and overcome the challenges of the online learning system in this Covid-19 pandemic situation. Firstly, the government authority should take initiative to reduce the price of the internet and ensure the internet facility for the remote areas of the country. Then, the government also should motivate the students and teachers to join online classes for reducing the education losses of the students. After that, the college authority should make an effective routine for the classes and notify all the students about the classes on the online platforms. The college authority should provide free android phones and internet facilities to the students to motivate them for joining the online classes. The teachers also ensure good techniques of the education for ensuring the quality of the learning.
In conclusion, this pandemic situation creates huge problems in the education system. Online learning has both opportunities as well as challenges. However, the importance of online learning can’t be ignored in this pandemic situation.
