4.1 Identify risk within your place of work
My workplace name is Tesco. Tesco plc, trading as Tesco, is a British multinational groceries and general merchandise retailer with headquarters in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England, and United Kingdom. It is the third-largest retailer in the world measured by profits and the ninth-largest retailer in the world measured by revenues. I have been working in Tesco as a duty manager for the last three years. There are several risk hazards in my workplaces where Electrical – Extension cords are one of them.
According to Tesco (2018), Office environments are full of electronics, appliances, power cords, extension cords, and surge protectors. These items have become such an integral part of our work that we don’t necessarily give too much thought to the hazards they bring with them. Electrical shock, burns, fires, and even tripping over extension cords. Electricity creates numerous hazards to the employees and my facility. Most electrical accidents result from unsafe equipment or installation, unsafe environment, or unsafe work practices. Electrical safety is imperative to a safe work environment. Reports show that about 1,000 electrical-related accidents occur a year in the workplace, which leads to about 30 recorded fatalities. Legally, employers must provide a safe work environment for their employees. Here at Tesco, we are a retailer company. Therefore, we have comprised a list of the four most common electrical hazards that can occur in the workplace and how to prevent them.
Any wires or cables that are not functioning properly should be removed immediately as they pose a serious electrical hazard. Electrical cables that are frayed, loose, or have exposed wires need to be attended to and replaced. Damaged wires and cables can cause electric shocks and fires. Regardless of the type of electrical equipment, they can pose dangerous electrical hazards if not used properly. Exposure to equipment that is life but presumed dead can cause severe injuries. Shocks from electrical equipment can also lead to falls from scaffolds, ladders, or other suspended platforms (Harrison. 2018). Outlets can only handle so much strain before it becomes a serious shock and fire hazard. Overusing the outlet can lead to overheating or a power shortage. This is a severe misuse of the outlet and should be handled immediately. If the outlet is posing as a threat, do not try and handle it oneself.

4.2 Identify the source of the risk
The modern office grinds to a standstill without electricity. From computers to copiers to office radios, almost everything plugs into an electrical outlet for power, which means the average office can be a maze of electrical cords. The various sources of Electrical – Extension cords are given below:
Tripping
According to Tesco (2018) running an electrical cord across traffic, the path is asking for trouble. Employees and customers alike could trip and injure themselves on a cord. If they don’t end up injured, their trip could pull a computer, monitor, or another expensive piece of equipment off a desk or counter. Tangles of computer and electrical cords under desks also present a hazard, as workers could become entangled in them and either injure themselves or disconnect or damage equipment. Rearrange desks and equipment to avoid extending cords in traffic paths…………..
