Introduction

The term “reflective essay” can be referred to as the process of gaining knowledge and skills from a learning condition (Barrick, 2019). The individual learning reflection is written in the reflective statement. I identify my roles in the teamwork and the experiences gathered from the team working in a company.  This statement outlines my contribution to teams and learning from the team works. This statement helps me to understand the way of developing the team and my responsibilities along with the strengths as well as weaknesses of my team.

How we developed a team

In the case of team working function, team development is a crucial task. I was the team leader of the team and applied Tuckman’s team development system for creating the team (Bhattacharyya, 2016). Firstly I created a team on the basis of forming stage. In this stage, I just communicated with every team member and distributed the task primarily. Secondly, I faced the storming stage of the team development where every team member faced the problem of the conflict about the roles and responsibilities. Thirdly, I communicated with the team members with proper norms to solve the problems and ensure an effective team working environment in the workplace. At the final stage of the team development system, I and my team members implemented the business functions to attain the actual objectives of the team development.

My role and tasks

A team has specific objectives. The roles of a team also are set up in advance for attaining the objectives. According to Belbin’s Team Roles theory, mainly a team has specific 9 roles that can be categorized under 3 headings including thought, people-oriented and action-oriented (EBA, 2015).

I was the team leader and performed the role of a resource investigator to find the necessary requirements for the launching of a new product in the market. For this reason, I mainly performed resource investigation functions in the teamwork. Firstly, I identified the market condition and market demand of the product by conducting market and customer analysis. Mainly, I have done my analysis activity on the basis of primary and secondary data. In the case of primary data, I used observation and interviews of the customers as well as competitors to find the feasibility of launching new product and journals, websites, and books as secondary data for identifying the profitability of a similar industry.

The strengths of our team

Werner (2018) noted that strengths are the positive things and the power of the respective factor. In the case of teamwork, the strengths indicate the personal qualities that help in achieving the team work objectives. My team has enough strength that helps in achieving the teamwork objectives. Our team had 5 members and we were working jointly to find the actual gaols of the team. All members of my team have enough knowledge about the business and environmental factors affecting the business. The team members of my team were also well educated by which we can easily understand the business research and management.  I and my team members have adequate knowledge about the team roles, leadership styles, motivation and communication knowledge by which we could easily do our survey and other activities effectively.

The weaknesses of our team

Weaknesses are the common factor in a team (Bhattacharyya, 2016).  My team also was not free from limitations. Firstly, a part of our team members was not cap0able of doing market and customer analysis. Secondly, one of my team members named Arif had no skills in the team roles because his background was not related to this field. Another team member named Akash who was faced a time lacking due to his job. He was trying his best but he was not giving full-time effort in the workplace that creates difficulties in combination with our team performance. Additionally, I was also faced with the difficulties to use technological issues and computer applications due to a lack of knowledge in this field.

The difficulties I have faced

Every team leader faced some difficulties to run the team successfully (Bhattacharyya, 2016). Firstly, it was very difficult for me to motivate every team member adequately because the mentality was not the same for all. Secondly, it was also difficult for me to convince all members for avoiding any conflict in the teamwork. Due to this reason, it was challenging for me to arrange team meetings for making a decision within due time. My two team members Arif and Sagor have not fulfilled the tutor’s guidelines that also create problems for achieving the actual goals of the team.

How I have addressed these difficulties

Barrick (2019) stated that the team difficulties can be removed by the following several reflective models. I have followed Kolb’s model of reflection to remove my weaknesses as well as difficulties. Firstly, I focused on the attainment of concrete experiences. Secondly, I have reviewed and reflected on the experience by proper observation. Thirdly, I have outlined the abstract conceptualization from the learning.  Finally, I have developed my views and made my actions plan to overcome difficulties.

My contribution

I was the team leader and contributed my efficiency in the workplace for achieving the team working goals. I have contributed to developing an effective team by following Tuckman’s theory. I have made timely meetings for taking accurate decisions at the accurate time to implement the team activities and achieve the team working goals.  I identified the market condition and market demand of the product by conducting market and customer analysis. Mainly, I have done my analysis activity on the basis of primary and secondary data. I have developed action plans for increasing the strengths and removing the weaknesses of the team.

What have I learnt from this teamwork

The team member has a great impact on my personal efficiency (Barrick, 2019). Firstly, it has increased my analysis skills in several fields especially in the business fields.  Secondly, teamwork has increased my leadership as well as communication skills. The problem-solving skills are also increased by teamwork. I have gained adequate experiences, skills and capabilities from the teamwork that assists me to form a bright future.

Conclusion

In summary, this reflective statement evaluated my learning capability and experiences along with the future action plans for further development. I also identified my roles in the teamwork and the experiences gathered from the team working. This statement also found my contribution in teams and learning from the team works. This statement has assisted me to find the weaknesses and strengths and actions plan for removing the difficulties.
