3.1: Explain why security and confidentiality are important in a business environment?
Holiday Inn is a famous four-star hotel in London, UK. Security and confidentiality are very important in its business environment (Holiday Inn, 2018). According to Brown (2018), it is very important for Holiday Inn to keep information secured and protected against possible threats: stealing, espionage, and accidental/malevolent deletion. Having security guards in the Holiday Inn of Holiday Inn is often a safety measure that may deter criminals from targeting the business. The strong security maintained in Holiday Inn often reduces the likelihood of threats. Security in the Holiday Inn is also important because it may reassure employees and make them feel safe with extra protection while entering and exiting the facility.
According to Holiday Inn (2018), security in the Holiday Inn is available in many forms, such as a security guard at entrances or near valuable assets or safes. Holiday Inn also ramp up security by installing advanced technologies to entryways, issuing access badges with photo identification for each employee, and upgrading surveillance with interior and exterior cameras to monitor activity. Security for communication practices is also important (Holiday Inn, 2018). For example, Holiday Inn has installed intercom systems and has backup systems on hand, such as two-way radios, for employees to communicate when phone failures occur. Safes and secure cabinets can protect confidential documents and client files from unescorted visitors in the Holiday Inn. In addition, procedures for shredding confidential information and high-security paperwork are important to have in place to reduce the risk of identity theft or leaks of company financials (Applied Trust, 2018).
On the other hand, confidentiality is also essential for the Holiday Inn to meet its organizational goals. In Holiday Inn, maintaining confidentiality is necessary to comply with ethical and legal regulations. At almost every level of the Holiday Inn business, there is a need to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information. Holiday Inn keeps employees, clients, and company records private to protect and secure sensitive data. Upholding confidentiality helps it keep information out of unethical hands (Holiday Inn, 2018). An employee who leaks vital information to a competitor can debilitate a company. Many people unknowingly sign over their confidentiality and privacy rights when they obtain access to the website of the Holiday Inn. Thus, Holiday Inn needs to maintain confidentiality to overcome the misuse of personal information its customers, employees, and other clients.
According to o Jules Halpern Associates (2018), to inspire confidence in employees and other business stakeholders, Holiday Inn must have a way of protecting everyone’s privacy. This is normally achieved by including a confidentiality agreement under the organization’s policies. One of the reasons why this is important is that some employees and stakeholders may disclose information that may be incriminating or may cause people to view them in a discriminatory manner. Another reason why confidentiality is important is that it helps keep the Holiday Inn united by protecting delicate information. If all employees knew every single detail about their colleagues, it would be difficult to keep them united.
This is especially true in Holiday Inns where people may have varied beliefs, opinions, sexuality, or cultural inclinations. According to Edmunds (2018), confidentiality also prevents criminal activity by guarding the information that would make it easy for malicious people to take advantage of an individual or situation. Data that reveals an individual’s personal information, such as finances, can easily be used for fraudulent activities, which is why keeping it confidential is important………………..
