Executive summary

The purpose of this report is to evaluate the leadership and the management approaches adopted by the leaders in a group works on fundraising for Barnados. This report has focused on various academic models and theories of management and leadership. Barnados is the leading charities in the UK which focusing mostly on the child abuse cases and relevant issues for protecting the children’s rights. Using various academic leadership and management approaches this report evaluates the best approach that can be adopted by the leader to fundraise for Barnados. In addition, this report will evaluate the group performance in raising fund for Barnardo’s. It will also made the recommendations on some of the areas which can be improved by the leader in fundraising for Barnardo’s  and the conclusion for implementing best leadership and management style of the Barnados.

1.0 Introduction

This report outlines various academic models and theories of management and leadership. Using various academic leadership and management approaches this report evaluates the best approach that can be adopted by the leader to fundraise for Barnados. In addition, this report will evaluate the group performance in raising fund for Barnardo’s. It will also made the recommendations on some of the areas which can be improved by the leader in fundraising for Barnardo’s  and the conclusion for implementing best leadership and management style of the Barnados.

Critically analysis the leadership and management styles practiced in organizations. A case study of the Barnados. This report will discuss various academic theories and models and how it will be used to implement the best leadership and management application in the context of Barnado`s.

The aims of this  research is to critically analysis and evaluate the effectiveness of leaderships and management styles practiced by Barnados. Then, the study will recommend the Barnados on how it can improve its leaderships and management styles in the workplace.

1.3 Business context

My workplace was Barnardo’s which a charity organization. It helps the vulnerable and disadvantaged people through different project, research expertise as well as campaigning.  In 2015, it helped more than 200,000 children, many young people as well as their families through above 900 projects in UK. The key aims of Barnardo’s is to do the best for the children whose voices are unheard, to support the children who are abused or sexually exploited, to offer vocational training to the young people to make them free from discrimination, abuse, and poverty. Barnardo’s has more than 5000 skilled and experienced people, and more than 17000 dedicated and devoted volunteers who support the Barnardo’s to gain its organizational goals and objectives (Barnardo’s, 2016).

This is a business report which is part of our Academic and Career Skills given by our tutor to write regarding the activities done in the fund raising for the charity organization, Barnado’s. This report has mainly focused on leadership and management styles practiced by Barnado’s as part of our coursework.

The module Academic and Career Skills has been designed and developed by the BPP university team. This module has provided opportunity for us to involve in a global charity organization, called Barnado’s. In fund raising I worked in a group of six members, where our target was to raise £500 for Barnado’s. Our group decided to raise money from the Canary Wharf area by setting up a snack shop and selling tea and coffee. Through this fund raising as our coursework we had opportunity to work for disadvantaged children………
