Executive Summary

There are strong influences of information technology and IT tools in the present business operations and management. This paper discusses various aspects and impacts of Information Technology in Tesco Business. Tesco is using the intranet and the internet in its business to access both internal and external information. Intranet is being used to collect, store, and maintain internal information of Tesco, whereas the internet is being used by Tesco to deal with external information. For dealing with intranet and internet, Tesco is using different networking systems including wide area and local area networking technologies. Tesco is also using several information management systems including a customer relationship management system, a decision support system, and an inventory management system. In addition, Tesco is effectively using the system development lifecycle in its different stages.

1. 0 Introduction to Tesco

Tesco is the biggest and market-dominating retailer in the UK retail and grocery sector. It is now capturing about 29% of the UK retail market. It is not only operating in the UK market, but also in several international markets including Thailand, India and China.  The Group Sales of the business by 2020 is £56.5bn, Group operating profit is counted as £2,959m by 2020 of their business revenues. The business was established in 1919 by Jack Cohen as a group of shop stalls in Hackney, London (TESCO, 2020). The business is now available in 3400 stores nationwide to serve the customers with their 450,00 excellent employees in the office. The Business Tesco Plc is the third-largest vendor in the world counted by gross revenues and the ninth-largest worldwide business counted by revenues.

1.1  Purpose of the report

The report aims to discuss various marketing policies, strategies, and innovative operations of Tesco Plc as the business runs its online business and adopted several social media marketing approaches. The internet and networking play vita important roles in the business operation bub the Tesco Plc. The company runs their groceries and daily necessaries worldwide in physical stress and for the recent needs of the customers increasingly forced the business to deliver their products due to coronavirus pandemic through online procedures. The home delivery services by the business require social and ethical issues for the customers. The report also discusses the implementation of Information Technology and its impacts on the business operations of Tesco Plc.

1.2 Background of the report

Tesco is a worldwide business platform serving their customers with F&F clothing, School Uniform, women’s clothing, men’s clothing, kids’ clothing, and Tesco Bank with several services like Current accounts, Credit cards, Savings, Loans, Mortgages, International money transfer etc. The business has designed their multiple marketing stores online to serve the customers in more rapid ways in the current situation by the Covid-19 and other calamities while the people are locked in the house and the country insisted not on going out. The business needs to be connected with more networking devices in their offices in this respect to support their customers largely from the online perspective. As there increased the demands of online shopping by the customers the marketers at Tesco can research more of their products that the customers need today like sanitizers, hand washing products, masks and PPE that may protect the germs.

2.0 Literature Review

2.1 Information technology and its role

Information technology covers the usages of computers in the offices and connected to the internet for various marketing functions like data analysis, data storing, data customization, database management and cloud storage management for the manipulation of their customer’s data, business policies, marketing policies, supplier management, data security and any other digital activities (Arslan, 2019). Information technology in business today performs the traditional activities in a more scientific and technical way that took more time and space before the adoption of the computer and networking technology in the office. The marketers search the customers to promote their products and sale in several marketplaces and today the online marketplace is familiarized through social media marketing as their huge users of social media applications worldwide wish to have the existence in the social and as a part of their brand awareness, they search the products of the business in online platforms.

2.2 Different networking technologies

Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), Local Area Network (LAN), Personal Area Network (PAN), Campus Area Network (CAN), Wireless Fidelity Network (Wi-Fi) etc. network technology used by the business today are common information technology basis and workplace management (Gutierrez, 2019). The business running online adopts these several styles of connection and networking technology in their workplace and industry. The digital workplace needs to be connected with its personnel and management. Managers need sot is connected to their suppliers and stakeholders. Indoor and outdoor connection purposes vary within the business and they need to apply several connection types and networking. For example, the PAN network is used in the Bluetooth devices used in the phone and mobile. This helps the marketers to uninterrupted communication while they have no phones in hand though. Gutierrez (2019) stated that small-sized business uses the network with LAN having the standard protocol IEEE 802 helps to connect the officer in the workplace and within the working areas.

2.3 Ethics and social issues of using technology

Ensuring consumer rights and privacy of their personal and private information is the key ethical issue for any business like Tesco. Personal information sharing policy ethical use of technologies, customer details using policy such as prevention cybercrimes, malware protection, cyber security, hacking prevention, etc. are considered as the common social and ethical issues today that affect the customers and their performance in online marketing approaches (Lumen, 2020). The marketers maintain a strong database management system to protect the customer’s data and hire IT expert engineers to find out the unethical issues and holes using that the hackers can enter their database and steal their data, policy and strategies. This type of hackers is hired as white hackers support the business to maintain the website ad social media marketing structure and online shop management………………………..
