Information technology is the modern factor that affects the functions of the business. The modern business world is affected by the use of information technology in the management of people, team member of the group, and the production factors like men, materials, and money. Sainsbury PLC is a retail organization in the UK that is applying Information technology for the last several years. In recent time; Sainsbury has established an IT department for managing the networks, collecting and storing the data, ensuing privacy and security of the data, and running the computerized functions (Bob, 2017). By applying the tools of information technology, Sainsbury is producing more and more new products and services as well as ensure customer satisfaction by providing quality goods and services.  The use of IT boosts up the revenue of the Sainsbury that ensures the brand image as well as loyalty of the consumers in the market. The IT tools help Sainsbury to get the market information and prepare the database for taking a better decision on future strategies (Sainsbury, 2019)

1. Introduction

Sainsbury PLC is a retail shop in the UK. This company holds a great position in the UK Market. In the last several years, Sainsbury has applied information technology and established an IT department for managing the networks, collecting and storing the data, ensuing privacy and security of the data, and running the computerized functions (Sainsbury, 2019). The production activities, distribution activities and administrative activities all are performed by effective application of IT. Sainsbury can increase its profitability, brand image and loyalty of the consumers in the market by the help of IT tools. Information technology helps Sainsbury to manage the employees, get the market survey information, and database management system that helps to take better decision. This study includes the related fields of literature reviews, various types of networks, social and ethical issues of IT and system development stages.

1.1 Purpose

The main aim of this study is to find the influence of the information technology in the prosperity of the retail sector in UK. Normally; this paper focuses on the information technology used in Sainsbury. This study also identifies the importance of information technology in the retail sector of the UK including Sainsbury. This report also classifies and discusses the various types of networks, social and ethical issues of IT in Sainsbury PLC. Finally; this study paper also discusses the steps of system development for a business organization including Sainsbury.

1.2 Background

At present; the business sectors especially in retail sector has faced various challenges and barriers due to changing demand of the customers as well as high competition (Miller and Kenn, 2017). In this circumstance; Information technology plays a vital role to remove the challenges and barriers of the retail sectors and helps to identify and use the opportunities for future growth and improvement (Bob, 2017). The information technology indicates the management information system that includes networking systems, hardware and software programs (Jullian, 2017). This study is prepared for analyzing this use of management information systems in the retail sector and the real impact on Sainsbury’s profitability, growth and achievement of goals and objectives.

2. Literature Review

2.2 Information Technology and its role

According to Ankit Bhatnagar (2016), the Information technology plays a vital role to remove the barriers of the retail sectors and helps to identify and use the opportunities for future growth. The profitability, growth and achievement of goals and objectives depend on the effective application of IT within and outside the business organisation. Henderson & Venkatraman (2014) stated that IT helps to manage networks, collect and store data, ensure privacy and security of the business information. The production, distribution and administrative functions are performed by using the tools of IT. Information technology helps to produce more and more new products and services as well as ensure the customers satisfaction by providing quality goods and services.  The customers’ satisfaction and employee connection are also improved by using the tools of IT…………………………………
