The key challenges facing businesses
The UK is under the main hotspot of Covid-19 and falling under a lockdown system to save the people from Corona Virus (Hussey, 2019). This country is going to 2nd lockdown from November 2020 for 4 weeks. Due to the lockdown, the retailer sectors have been seriously affected because most of the physical shops are closed at the time of lockdown (Babin, 2020). Collis (2020) stated that the level of uncertainty of the retail business has also increased due to the spread of Covid-19 and the lockdown policy of the UK government (Blackall, 2020). The business environment is not favorable due to Covid-19 and the retail sector has no funds for managing the adverse impact of the environment. For this reason, the retail segment has suffered from huge financial loss and the financial crisis because of Covid-19 (Collis, 2020). The profitability, growth and sustainability of retail shops are also fallen into threats because of the spreading Coronavirus and the lockdown system in the UK.
Safety guidelines from UK governments
The main authority of the United Kingdom has declared some specific guidelines for the retailers to run the business functions in the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. Firstly, the retailers including high street stores, libraries, electronics retailers, tailors, hair salons, hotels and restaurants, bars, heritage venues studios, indoor markets, shoes and toys have to consider the Covid-19 as a serious problem and try to maintain the guidelines of the government by which they can save the customers and themselves (Stewart, 2020). After that, the retailers have to save the employees and staff from the Covid-19 by ensuring social distance in the workplace. The UK government has mentioned that the retailer shops have to display the notice and arrange the hand sanitization for the customers (Stewart, 2020). The UK government motivates the retailers to start online business systems by which customers need not come to the physical shops.
Viewpoints from business and other stakeholders
Zikmund (2020) noted the retailers have to consider this lockdown system negatively because they can’t run their business smoothly. Additionally, the extra guidelines of the UK government have created problems to operate the business. The other parties of the retailers have also suffered from several drawbacks due to Covid-19 and lockdown but they appreciate and respect the government decision because human life is more important than business.
Recommendations for businesses
To overcome the challenges of Covid-19 and the lockdown system, the government has prescribed guidelines for retailers to save the life of the retailers and customers. Now, the retailers should respect the government guidelines and maintain safety policies in the physical shops. Firstly, the retailers should try to maintain the guidelines of the government by which they can save the customers and themselves (Zikmund, 2020). Then, the retailers should set up health and safety policies for the employees and staff and ensure social distance in the workplace. The retailer shops should display the notice and arrange the hand sanitization for the customers. The retailers should more depend on the online business system by which customers can order their products from home.
Conclusion
The Covid-19 has created a challenging place of business where all types of business including the retail segment have faced challenges. The UK government has made the safety policies for the retailers that should be maintained by the retailers to save the customers and country’s people from Covid-19.
