Introduction
According to McLean (2016), Business communication means how a business organization shares messages or information to sponsor its product and services to its consumers by maintaining better customer service. Effective communication in business is very significant for the development of the business organization (Bovee, 2017). In addition, business communication supports the managers to do basic functions of the management including Organizing, Planning, Motivating, and Controlling.
Barriers and Challenges to Effective Communication
There are a number of communication barriers which are explained as follows:
Physical and physiological barriers
There are several physical and physiological barriers that create communication barriers including background noise, distance, malfunctioning and poor equipment, poor eyesight, bad hearing, and speech impediments (BMA Group, 2017).
Emotional and cultural noise
As BMA Group (2017) notes, emotional factors such as fear, sadness or anger, and cultural noise such as having to be right, trusting oneself to be superior or inferior to others affect the cultural background in different ways and create communication barriers.
Language
Speaking in different languages, having strong inflections, applying slang or jargon can create communication barriers in the workplace (BMA Group, 2017).
Lack of eye contact
It creates a communication barrier if there is a lack of eye contact when communicating. It is significant for both managers and employees to make proper eye contact in the workplace to reduce the communication barrier.
Information overload and lack of focus
Information overload can create communication barriers among the managers and staff while communicating (BMA Group, 2017). Too much information can make complicate the audience and they cannot understand the actual message from the sender.
Not being prepared, lack of credibility
If a speaker is not prepared and has a lack of information facts, then he/she could take a short note with him/her. It is essential for the speaker to not let down its listener while communicating. Lack of credibility creates communication barriers between the speaker and the listener (BMA group, 2017).
Talking too much
On the other hand, talking too much in communication can create communication barriers. A speaker cannot understand how much he talks but a listener can easily get the communication faults.

Knowing the purpose of communication: It is essential for managers or speakers to know the main purpose of communication because without the appropriate purpose of communication creates a communication barrier (EDUCBA, 2017). Thus, it is essential to maintain communication purposes while communicating.

How Culture Influences Communication
As Hofstede (2017) notes, culture refers to a specific set of ethics, customs, codes, and morals from a particular time. Every business organization recruits its employees who are from different cultures. Thus, it is essential to take several steps to maintain business communication properly. There are several dimensions of communication including the verbal/non-verbal dimension, oral/written dimension, formal/informal dimension, and intentional/unintentional dimension that are influenced by culture.
Verbal/non-verbal dimension: The difference between verbal and non-verbal communication in business organizations has impacted by culture. A business organization recruits employees who are from diverse backgrounds. As a result, their communication style is also different from each other, and this impacts communication (Guirdham, 2016). Thus, business organizations should take proper communication strategies to avoid this.
Oral/written dimensions: An organization is full of staff that are from diverse cultures. Thus, different people have different writing styles or oral communication that hinders effective business communication in the workplace (Guirdham, 2016).
Formal/Informal dimensions: Different persons have different cultures so different formal or informal systems. In the workplace, organizations must take a specific formal system for communication for all the staff (Guirdham, 2016). Otherwise, different cultures from different people can affect communication effectively.
Intentional/unintentional dimensions: There are also intentional and unintentional communication dimensions that are impacted by culture in different ways.
