Introduction

Business communication is vital for success in all businesses. Success in this context means, being able to accomplish business operations by achieving organizational goals and objectives. Good business communications are essential to manage staff and retain customers. Business success can be measured in terms of business relationships with its stakeholders. The first step in successful business communication is to identify the communication weaknesses in a business. This can be through brainstorming and identifying challenges facing the business. Organizations can identify challenges by reviewing the day-to-day activities of the business. This paper discusses and analyses several issues related to business communication for a particular business. The chosen business in this paper is Starbucks.

Company review

Starbucks was established in 1971 by three local businessmen to sell high-quality whole beans coffee. In 1981, when Howard Schultz visited the store he planned to build a strong company and expand a high-quality coffee business with the name of Starbucks. Starbucks provides high quality of coffee to its consumer and aim to achieve product innovation, retail expansion, and provide quality service for the long term. Starbucks opened its first coffee store in Seattle, Washington. In 1990, Starbucks expanded its headquarters in Seattle and also build a new roasting plant. In the 1990s, Starbucks opened 60 retails shops in the United Kingdom. At the end of the 2000s, Starbuck’s total branches were 3500. The coffee business is one of the rapidly growing industries in this world due to its increasing trend of demand. According to the national coffee association, 49% of the British aged 18 and more drink coffee beverages every day. The coffee industry was at the peak of its success at the end of the 1990s.

Verbal informationThe sharing of information between individuals by using speech. Individuals working within a business need to effectively use verbal communication. Employs readily understand spoken words, as well as ensure that the enunciation, stress, and tone of voice with which the words are expressed are appropriate. Examples of verbal communication are informal meeting, formal meeting, face to face conversation, conferences as well as the discussion.
Written information

 

Written information is the most common form of business communication. It is essential for5 all business owners and managers to develop effective written communication skills and to encourage the same in all employees. Therefore, this is significant for Starbucks ’ managers as well as owners to use this method. In the case of Starbucks, the way of written information is internet websites, telegrams, electronic mail, postcards, faxes, proposals, advertisements, contracts, new releases, and brochures.
On-screen information An on-screen display (abbreviated OSD) is an image superimposed on a screen picture, commonly used by modern television sets, VCRs, and DVD players to display information such as volume, channel, and time. This type of data can be an arrangement of text, graphics, video, animation, and sound. Starbucks has several meetings with their employees, managers, and customers using on-screen information.
Web-based informationA web information system, or web-based information system, is an information system that uses Internet web technologies to deliver information and services, to users or other information systems and applications. It is a software system that main purpose is to publish and maintain data by using hypertext-based principles. Starbucks has developed a dynamic website to share its information with the potential and target customers and stakeholders.

 

Purpose of information

The key purposes of information in business are to increase operational support, monitor and control activity; analyze information by identifying patterns or trends. In addition, the information in business is used to make operational, tactical, and strategic business decisions and gain an advantage over competitors.

Starbucks uses the information to support its business operations and day-to-day activities. This is recognized as operational support. Operational support means that Starbucks uses the information to monitor and control activity within the business…………………..
