Types of communication
Communication is the sharing process of information among two or more people. It can be verbal or non-verbal (Charles, 2019). Verbal communication is used sounds and words for creating communication. On the contrary, non-verbal communication is not used sounds or words for communicating language. The key types of verbal communication include oral communication like spoken language, and non-oral language like written and sign language (Gagne and Deci, 2018). The key types of non-verbal communication include oral communication like laughing, crying and coughing and non-oral communication like gestures and body language.
Key theories that define the communication process
Behavioural theory: The behavioural theory of communication was developed by Dr Jurgen Ruesch. According to this model, the social conditions are based on verbal and non-verbal communication and the communication behaviour is affected by social norms. The social norms are influenced by several issues including culture, gender, roles, and religion (Awamleh, 2018). Additionally, social norms depend on cultural factors. Culture is the combination of beliefs, customs and behaviour of the society people. After that social norms are influenced by gender. The communication behaviour of man and women are not the same. The religious pattern also influences the social norms by which the communication method can be differentiated.
Transmission model: The transmission model is regarded as the most important and first model in the communication process. It is regarded as the linear method of communication where the sender is sending a message to the receiver by using a channel directly (Awamleh, 2018). But, there is a chance of breakdown the communication due to noise.
On the basis of this model, the sender has an intention to send a message that converts into words, images or actions and send to the receiver through an effective channel by which the receiver can be understood the intention of the message.
Transactional model: On the basis of the transaction model, the main factors of communication are feedback, context, noise and channel. This model is not a linear method of communication but is a cycle method of communication. Charles (2019) stated that Feedback is the reply of the receiver after receiving the message to the sender. The context indicates the mood, education level, relationship and demographic condition of the sender and receiver (Awamleh, 2018). Noise is also included in the communication process that hampers the communication system and the channel is considered as the method or tool of transferring a message from sender to receiver……………………………
