1.0 Introduction
Communication skill is most important and requires for the workers. Every worker should be good at both oral and written communication processes. According to Johnson (2015) for developing their workers’ communication skills, several companies invest a sufficient amount. In this report, the reporter mainly emphasizes on the importance of the communication skill of the workers in the workplace and discuss the fact of “Overwhelmed with work”. Then, this paper discusses several communication models and types of communications in workplaces.
2.0 My friend’s real-life experience in the workplace
My friend has been working at a branch of Greggs plc which is a top food chain company in the UK. Nowadays his workload has risen up severely. As the workload is high he faces many difficulties to finish the work on time. His workload becomes double as he has been taken the responsibilities of the workers who are no longer in this company. There is no helping hand for him as no one is hired. For this reason, he becomes weak physically and mentally to maintain the workload. And it also creates a bad impact on his social and family life. In this circumstance, it is my opinion that the Greggs’ manager should communicate to him more efficiently for finding out the problems.
3.0 Communication
3.1 Definition of communication
Communication refers to a method by which people mutually interchange their opinions, thoughts, information, activities with others individuals. The regular processes of communication are speaking otherwise writing through a sender otherwise reading the receiver. Maximum communication is verbal, one group is talking and others think it is.
3.2 Communication and its goals
Communication is gathering information, sharing opinions, exchanging ideas, doing presentations, and attending lectures. The goals of communication are to change behavior, to get action, to ensure understanding, to persuade, to get and give information.
3.3 Methods of communication
The most common ways to communicate are speaking, writing, visual image, and body language. Communication is classified as verbal (oral) communication, written communication, and non-verbal communication. On the basis of organizational relationships, communication is classified as formal and informal. On the basis of flow, communication is classified as vertical, horizontal, and crosswise/diagonal. On the basis of expression, communication is classified as oral, written, and gesture.
3.4 Barriers to communication
The common barriers of communications are semantic barriers, emotional or psychological barriers, organizational barriers, barriers in Superiors, and personal barriers.
4.0 Communication models
4.1 Communication process model
The process of communication related to several elements such as senders, messages, receivers and feedback. The senders formulate messages through different communication channels (like verbal, telephones, voicemail, online, email, letters, and other media), where the receivers decode the messages and formulate feedback that is decoded by senders (EnkiVillage, 2016).
Advantages of the communication process
It increases the mutual gaze, which may help with understanding. In this process, the receivers have the opportunity to present their opinions and senders understand the consumers that mean receivers’ demands and requirements basis on their opinions. The feedback is a very quick process via oral communications. So, decisions can be made quickly without any delay (EnkiVillage, 2016).
The disadvantage of the communication process
There are some disadvantages of this communication. If the channel in this communication is verbal then it can be quickly forgotten, especially if there are multiple points to consider. There is a lack of nonverbal communication (EnkiVillage, 2016).
4.2 Shannon-Weaver Mathematical Model, 1949
The Shannon-Weaver model was introduced by the American mathematician and electronic engineer Shannon and American scientist Weaver in 1949. This model is specially designed for improving the suitable and workable communication between the senders and the receivers. This process-related to various terms such as information sources, noise, various channels, message, receiver, data destination, encodes as well as decodes (Parks, 2017).
Advantages of the Shannon-Weaver Mathematical Model, 1949
The idea of noise is helpful to communicate through to remove the difficulties due to noise. This method accepts communication as a two-way process. This applies to standard communication (Parks, 2017).
Disadvantages of the Shannon-Weaver Mathematical Model, 1949
It can be further applied to interpersonal communication than group communication as well as mass communication. The sender’s most important role is to send the passive receiver to the passive segment of the communication process. Response to sender messages is accepted is not much significant (Parks, 2017).

4.3 Berlo’s Model of Communication
Berlo’s model of communication was first introduced by David Berlo in 1960. He influenced the various parts of communication which made communication extra capable. This model related to several components such as source, message, channel and receiver. Source deals with the communication skills, attitudes, knowledge, social system and culture of the senders. The other component of this model is a message with deals with the content elements, treatments, structure and code. Channel is related to hearing, seeing, touching, smelling and tasting. The last component receiver deals with the communication skills, attitudes, knowledge, social system and also the cultural condition (Postman, 2011).
Advantages of Berlo’s model of communication
This model is related to senders’ and receivers’ communication skills, attitudes, knowledge and social and cultural systems. So it has a chance to know each other’s and develop these skills (Postman, 2011).
Disadvantages of Berlo’s model of communication
According to Postman (2011), this model is a complex model. In this method, there have no chance to know the feedbacks and effects. It doesn’t show the difficulties of the communication. The key weakness of the model is that the model is used as a channel of six senses, which is really a gift to people (though, realizing, analysis, and so on.)……………………………….
