1.0 Introduction

Through this reflective essay describes in what ways the “Academic and Employability Skills” module has helped me to gain my academic and employability skills. Under this module, the academic skills have enhanced my academic uprightness, capacity and erudition (Turner, 2011). Employability is defined as a group of skills, understanding for getting a job of desire. Through this module, my employability has also got enriched. Through this paper, the academic skills and employability skills which I have gained throughout the module have been reflected in the first place. Then, how this module has enriched my skills have been reflected by me. Finally, I have reflected on my limitation in the skills and the ways I can improve my limitations.

2.0 What academic and employability skills I have developed through this module

Academic skills are defined as the approaches to learning (Turner, 2011).  Through academic skills, one student can enhance their language skills, listening skills, writing skills, and learning skills. In the term of academic skills, through this module, my skills level in research, language, listening, learning, reflection, referencing, analysis and creativity got improved. Employability is very essential to achieve the job of desire. Employability skills include interpersonal skills, transferable skills along with career management skills (Vonada, 2012). My expertise in time management, communication, leadership, teamwork, research and analysis got enriched through this module. My abilities in the area of problem-solving, decision making, technical side and critical analysis got rectified by participating in this module.

3.0 How the learning in this module helped me to develop academic skills

In building a better career, the role of academic skills and employability is very essential (Vonada, 2012). For people who want to have a sound career, improving their academic skills on a regular basis is very important (Turner, 2011). As the technologies are frequently advancing, they must get higher education for handling their profession related to those updated technologies. Employers look for people with higher edification for these kinds of jobs. A successful academic skill makes a person more self-confident and has less anxiety in their life. However, these are the factors that are must be needed in the workplace.  I had great help from this module to improve my academic and employability skills. While participating in this module I have gained vast knowledge in writing, research and referencing in an academic style. My other academic skills like essay writing, paraphrasing, structuring and presentation, and report writing skills got improved through this module.

Writing skills

In this module, according to the requirement I had to write reports. By writing those reports my skills in writing got improved. My grammars, spelling, punctuation got corrected and I learnt to write a job application. As writing can make it easy to express, my skills to express my thoughts and experiences got improved. I got to learn to show my personality through my writing. Now, I can write and express all of my concepts, logic and conflicts in an understandable way where my readers will not get confused. Through this module, I gained skills of giving others feedback with a clear concept and explaining the readers in a most comprehensible way through my writing.

Research skills

Through this module, I have learnt about designing effective research methods through which reliable and valid research work can be conducted. Taking part in this module has helped me to gain information on data collection methods, sources of data and data analysis techniques. In the process of data collection from various sources, I learnt to browse a search engine properly. I also came to know about other various search engines through this module. In addition, I have practised research work on several topics. Nevertheless, I have some limitations in my analytical skills of mine. For this, I need more improvement in my skills.

Referencing skills

Participating in the module has increased my referencing skills. I learnt about proper referencing in report writing, essay writing, research works and thesis. I came to know about referencing in text and arranging references in the Harvard Referencing style. This skill of referencing will benefit me in my future academic courses and research work. In my report, essays and research work I can put references about the contribution of the other researchers and writers through my referencing skills. This skill will also help me in future academic and professional researches in making my arguments valid. The readers of my work will also be able to follow the original works through my reference. In addition, I will also be able to show the hard works behind studying all the original works and avoid plagiarism.

Reflective and creative thinking skills

My reflective ability and creativity in thinking also get improve through this module. While participating in this module I had to read many books on critical thinking which enhanced my ability to analyse critically. I also had to study a lot of reflective reports which improved my reflective skills. For this, now I am capable of reflecting my works and experience through critical thinking and a creative way that will not confuse my readers.

Critical analysis skills

By the mean of the module, I also learnt to analyse any situation or work critically. I also got help and instruction from my module tutor about how to conduct a proper critical analysis on an affair or issue. This skill has made me able to do a critical evaluation and do a fair judgement by reading any topic. Now I can determine the author’s intention of writing, outline the writing by analysing it and then write a summary on the work with explanation………………………………..
